Buccaneer great Warren Sapp has taken on the NFL's best offensive linemen and quarterbacks. He's earned accolades for his defensive prowess from high school, through college, and the NFL. He's a 7-time Pro Bowler, the 1999 NFL defensive player of the year, and a Super Bowl winner.

He is now an analyst for the NFL Network, as well as Showtime's Inside the NFL. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, Sapp has also appeared on television outside of football, coming in second on Dancing With The Stars in season 7, and roasting Larry the Cable Guy.

But this is a bit different. Now he's acting.

HBO is promoting the second season of Funny or Die Presents, and released this skit featuring the QB Killa himself, Warren Sapp.

2011 NFL Mock Drafts - Bucs To Pick Defensive End

With the twentieth pick in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft, most mock drafts currently suggest your Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be picking a defensive end.

Top defensive ends in the draft coming out include Da'Quan Bowers of Clemson, Cameron Jordan of California, North Carolina's Robert Quinn, Adrian Clayborn from Iowa, Ryan Kerrigan of Purdue, and Cameron Heyward of Ohio State. Others have Pittsburgh's Jabaal Sheard, Allen Bailey of Miami, and Aldon Smith of Missouri among the top prospects as well.

Iowa senior Adrian Clayborn is the DE most often cited as going to the Bucs by analysts. SB Nation's 2011 NFL mock draft says the Bucs will choose Clayborn, as do the experts from Walter Football, Chad Reuter from CBS, and fftoolbox's Randall Weida.

As mentioned, Clayborn is not the only DE out there. According to the Great Blue North Draft Report, the Bucs will get Aldon Smith from Missouri. CBS' Rob Rang says the Buccaneers will pick Cameron Jordan of California. Matt De Lima says the Bucs will convert OLB Akeem Ayers of UCLA to defensive end.

But at least two prognosticators say first round worthy ends will be gone by pick #20, and the Buccaneers will get more value there with Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod.

2011 NFL Mock Draft - Tampa Bay Picks 20th In First Round

Mock drafts are funny things. Fans know what their team needs, and we can make an educated guess as to which team will pick which player. If only it were that cut-n-dry.

Trouble starts when teams have glaring needs in several positions. We think we know what our team’s biggest need is, but the front office might have a different opinion.

But even if we correctly guess which position to fill in the first round, it’s not always easy to determine the best player to fill that position.

Just look at the 2010 Buccaneers for example. The rookie wide receiver with the most yards and most touchdowns this year is our very own Mike Williams. Williams was projected to be picked as late as the sixth round last year, and the Bucs grabbed him in the 4th round, after 13 other recievers were taken.

Meanwhile, LeGarrette Blount had the best numbers of all rookie running backs this year, and he did not get drafted at all.

Having said all that, it is fun to look into a crystal ball, and try to figure out where our favorite team will go.

Some draft analysts suggest the Bucs will go with an offensive tackle. Others say the old Buccaroos will go with an outside linebacker in the first round.

Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to upgrade the defensive line. We agree with most who say a good first-round defensive end will help shore it up.

Would you target that position first? And if so, then what?

Buccaneers 2011 NFL Draft: Bucs Pick Number 20

2011 NFL Draft Order

With the 2010 season over for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we look toward the 2011 draft to find out where the Buccaneers fit, and who might fit in with them.

For the twenty non-playoff teams such as the Bucs, the 2011 draft order has already been determined. The worst team in 2010 -- the Carolina Panthers -- had only two wins all season, and will get the first pick in the draft. The Broncos, Bills, and Bengals will follow them, each with four wins. The Cards and Browns won five games each and round out the top (bottom) six.

As the best non-playoff team this past season, you may notice that your Buccaneers get the 20th pick this year, right in front of the Giants, who also won ten games. Here is the complete draft order for non-playoff teams:

1. Carolina Panthers (2-14)
2. Denver Broncos (4-12)
3. Buffalo Bills (4-12)
4. Cincinnati Bengals (4-12)
5. Arizona Cardinals (5-11)
6. Cleveland Browns (5-11)
7. San Francisco 49ers (6-10)
8. Tennessee Titans (6-10)
9. Dallas Cowboys (6-10)
10. Washington Redskins (6-10)
11. Houston Texans (6-10)
12. Minnesota Vikings (6-10)
13. Detroit Lions (6-10)
14. Miami Dolphins (7-9)
15. St. Louis Rams (7-9)
16. Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8)
17. Oakland Raiders (8-8)
18. San Diego Chargers (9-7)
19. New York Giants (10-6)
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-6)

Going by current record, the playoff teams will pick as follows:

21. Seattle Seahawks (7-9)*
22. Indianapolis Colts (10-6)*
23. Green Bay Packers (10-6)*
24. Kansas City Chiefs (10-6)*
25. Philadelphia Eagles (10-6)*
26. New York Jets (11-5)*
27. New Orleans Saints (11-5)*
28. Chicago Bears (11-5)*
29. Baltimore Ravens (12-4)*
30. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)*
31. Atlanta Falcons (13-3)*
32. New England Patriots (14-2)*

Of course, those last dozen are likely to change somewhat, based on results in the 2010 playoffs.

As you know, your Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eliminated from playoff contention on the last day of the regular season. Unfortunately, all we can do is look forward to 2011.

With the regular season coming to an end, next year's opponents have been determined. That is, of course, assuming NFL teams play a normal, 16-game schedule next year.

The scheduling formula implemented in 2002 with realignment guarantees that all teams play each other on a regular, rotating basis. After the 2008 season, a decision was made to continue with the same rotation in 2011.

Under the formula, every team within a division plays 16 games as follows:

Home and away against its three division opponents (6 games).

The four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle (4 games).

The four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle (4 games).

Two intraconference games based on the prior year’s standings (2 games). These games match a first-place team against the first-place teams in the two same-conference divisions the team is not scheduled to play that season. The second-place, third-place, and fourth-place teams in a conference are matched in the same way each year.

EXCEPTION: Beginning in 2010, a change was made to how teams are paired in the schedule rotation to ensure that teams playing the AFC and NFC West divisions would not be required to make two west coast trips (e.g. at San Francisco and at Seattle), while other teams in their division had none (e.g. at St. Louis and at Arizona).

For the 2011 Buccaneers, it means six games against the NFC South (Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans), four games against the NFC North (the Bucs' old NFC Central conference foes -- Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, Minnesota), four games against the AFC South (Houston, Indy, Jacksonville, Tennessee), and two against fellow third-place finishers from the NFC West (San Francisco) and the NFC East (Dallas).

For those of us thinking about getting season tickets to the Buccaneers games in the upcoming season, we will see home games against:

Atlanta Falcons

Carolina Panthers

New Orleans Saints

Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions

Dallas Cowboys

Houston Texans

Indianapolis Colts

Road trips in 2011 include contests with:

Atlanta Falcons

Carolina Panthers

New Orleans Saints

Green Bay Packers

Minnesota Vikings

San Francisco 49ers

Jacksonville Jaguars

Tennessee Titans

Again, this assumes a 16-game schedule. If the NFL adopts an eighteen-game regular season for 2011, they will have to alter the formula somewhat, perhaps adding 2 to the above, or coming up with a completely different schedule.

Also, specific dates have not yet been determined. The NFL typically releases the official NFL schedule, with playing dates and times, in the spring. Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations between owners and players may alter that timeline as well.

Saints, Bucs Both Aim To Improve Positions In Regular Season Finale

The New Orleans Saints find themselves faced with a bit of a dilemma heading into its regular-season finale with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Their opponent, on the other hand, has no such reservations about the mindset it will have to take when taking the Superdome field this coming Sunday.

Although the Saints are assured of a spot in the upcoming NFC Playoffs, they can be slotted into two very different positions depending on the outcome of this weekend’s games. New Orleans still has a chance to earn the conference’s coveted No. 1 overall seed, but that’s contingent on the powerhouse Atlanta Falcons losing at home to the Carolina Panthers, owners of the league’s worst overall record, on Sunday.

If the Panthers are able to pull off the upset and the Saints defeat the Buccaneers, New Orleans will have home-field advantage throughout the NFC tournament as well as a greatly-desired bye for next week’s opening round. If the more likely scenario of the Falcons prevailing occurs, however, the reigning world champs would be seeded fifth and travel to the winner of the NFC West (either St. Louis or Seattle) in a Wild Card matchup on either Jan. 8 or 9.

The Atlanta-Carolina game will be going on at the same time as the Saints’ battle with the still-alive Buccaneers, meaning there’ll be plenty of scoreboard-watching taking place on the New Orleans sideline when the team competes.

New Orleans kept its chances of claiming both the NFC South and No. 1 seed possible by knocking off the division-leading Falcons in a 17-14 thriller Monday at the Georgia Dome, ending Atlanta’s eight-game winning streak in the process. The triumph was the seventh in the past eight outings for the Saints and a strong bounce-back from a 30-24 setback at Baltimore the previous week.

Saints head coach Sean Payton has stated he’ll be playing to win Sunday’s contest, but took a similar public stance prior to last year’s Week 17 tilt at Carolina. He then decided to either rest or limit the time of several starters, most notably quarterback Drew Brees, with New Orleans already having locked up the NFC’s top seed.

The Saints went on to lose to the Panthers — their third straight defeat to conclude the regular season — but Payton’s approach still paid off. New Orleans regained momentum during the playoffs and ripped off three consecutive victories to capture the franchise’s first-ever Lombardi Trophy.

For the Buccaneers, the message is much clearer — win Sunday’s game and your playoff hopes will remain intact. Tampa Bay still needs considerable help in order to seize the NFC’s final Wild Card berth, however, as Green Bay and the New York Giants also have to lose on Sunday in order for the Bucs to extend their season.

The Packers host NFC North champ Chicago and the Giants travel to Washington, with both games being held during the later portion of Sunday’s schedule.

Tampa Bay kept itself in the discussion by dominating wayward Seattle last Sunday, getting a career-high five touchdown passes out of young quarterback Josh Freeman and a personal-best 164 rushing yards from rookie running back LeGarette Blount en route to a 38-15 rout.

Though their goal of reaching the postseason may be difficult to attain, the Buccaneers can still achieve a couple of other objectives by besting the Saints. A win would give Tampa Bay double-digit victories for the first time since 2005 and disprove the notion that the up-and-coming club isn’t yet ready to seriously challenge the league’s heavyweights.

The Bucs are 0-5 against teams that currently possess a positive record in 2010, which includes a 31-6 thrashing by New Orleans in Tampa during Week 6. The Saints outgained the Buccaneers by a 475-277 margin in total yards that day, with Brees throwing for three touchdowns to lead the way.

There’s little doubt the Saints are more skilled and proven than the still- developing Buccaneers, and would be a consensus pick in most weeks. This may not be like most weeks, however, due to the likelihood that New Orleans will be jumping right into the postseason fray shortly after Sunday’s contest. The Saints will treat this game normally at the start, but if Atlanta begins pulling away in its matchup, don’t be surprised if Payton winds up giving some of his stars an early exit with an eye towards next week. That may be the opening that Tampa Bay, which will be going all out with its playoff lives at stake, needs to obtain a victory it desperately needs. Freeman’s made a history of orchestrating fourth-quarter comebacks during his brief pro career, and this could be another of those times.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Buccaneers 24, Saints 20

Colston suffered a knee injury in Monday night’s contest against the Falcons, a 30-24 win that secured the reigning Super Bowl champions a playoff spot.

Colston has recorded 84 receptions for 1,023 yards and seven touchdowns. It’s the fourth time in his five-year career he has eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark.

Running back Pierre Thomas and tight end Jeremy Shockey are also inactive.

Thomas, who is slowed by a lingering ankle injury, missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but returned to take limited reps in Friday’s session.

Shockey is out with a groin problem.
