The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't mincing words about the impact of losing defensive end Adrian Clayborn for the season. The game-changing lineman is lost for the 2012 season with a knee injury (from the Tampa Bay Times):
"A.C. brought a style to this defensive line that nobody could bring," George Johnson said. "Nobody can really match his intensity. The only thing we can try to do is replicate what he does best."
Johnson, largely a practice squad player who has appeared in only four NFL games, will try and fill the gap along with Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, signed from the Eagles last season and Clayborn's in-game replacement against the Cowboys on Sunday
"Daniel is a very impressive player, a third-round pick that just needed the opportunity," said DE Michael Bennett. "Every time he gets that opportunity, he makes a couple plays – that's what we need. George is a guy who really works hard, wants to get a chance, when he gets his chance I believe he'll capitalize on his opportunity. He's a guy who really studies his film, and knows how to play at this level."
Between the pair, Te'o-Nesheim and Johnson had a total of five game appearances before Clayborn's injury.

With game-changing defensive Adrian Clayborn lost for the season to a knee injury, Tampa Bay's attention could shift towards the return of another injured DE - Da'Quan Bowers. The Buccaneers' defensive end ruptured his Achille's tendon in the offseason, but was placed on the PUP - physically unable to perform - list instead of injured reserve with a hope that he could be back at some point in the 2012 season.
Bowers talked to the Tampa Bay Times Monday about a potential return:
"It's been a long process, since May, it gets overwhelming at times," Bowers said. "You've got to take it day by day. I know what my purpose is, I've got to work hard to get back where I was last year. It's a tough injury to come back from. The staff here has been doing everything in their power to make sure I have a healthy comeback.
If Bowers returns, it wouldn't be until Week 6 at the earliest, as stipulated by the league for any player on the PUP list. Bowers said that a decision to return is entirely up to head coach Greg Schiano, and that he still has four weeks of rehab ahead of him.
