UCF Scandal: Fortuitous Timing For The Knights?

Oh, without a doubt.

↵

When news broke yesterday on the UCF recruiting scandal, one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind was, "What incredible timing." During most weeks, the UCF scandal would be receiving coverage from major outlets, and reporters would be digging deeper and deeper into the story. The public loves to feast on NCAA schadenfreude, and every unearthed recruiting scandal only reinforces the common opinion that the NCAA is full of corruption from top to bottom.

But with attention fixed firmly on Penn State and Joe Paterno right now, UCF's blunder barely registers on the public consciousness. I have seen some locals comment about it on Twitter -- this is one of my favorites -- but for the most part, the story hasn't gotten that much attention. Even locally, it appears this story is getting shadowed over by Penn State:

On LOCAL radio here, 96% of the calls are about Penn St. Well played, UCF. (Jason Collette, Twitter)

Well played, indeed. I'm not sure if UCF had any say in when to make the announcement, so it's possible this was lucky timing for them.

If that's the case, though, every UCF alum should go out and purchase a lottery ticket. Like, now.
