Report: Jacoby Brissett Gets Nod Over Driskel, Will Start Versus Auburn

There has been much speculation among Gators fans this week on who would start at quarterback this week against Auburn: Jacoby Brissett or Jeff Driskel. Driskel entered the season as the #2 quarterback on the depth chart, so the starting role was handed to him when starter John Brantley went down with a high ankle sprain. But after suffering an ankle injury himself last week, Driskel found himself on the sidelines while Jacoby Brissett got the start against LSU.

As early as yesterday, coach Will Muschamp was calling the competition for this week’s start a dead heat. Driskel recovered from his ankle injury by mid-week, allowing him to take equal reps during practices and toss his name back into the ring.

But despite Driskel’s return, Rachel George from the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Jacoby Brissett will get the start again for the Gators. Muschamp has apparently liked what he’s seen from the true freshman, despite his underwhelming line against LSU (8-14, 94 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT). But of course, LSU is ranked #1 in the country, so expecting anything more from Brissett last week would have been nuts.

John Brantley is apparently recovering well from his ankle sprain, so he could theoretically be ready to play in next week’s game. Brissett better take this opportunity and run with it, as it could be his last chance to showcase himself this season.
