Florida Gators Injuries: John Brantley Suffers Concussion, Darrin Kitchens Recovering From Neck Injury

Senior quarterback John Brantley and junior linebacker Darrin Kitchens both suffered concussions in Saturday's loss to Florida State.

Florida Gators quarterback John Brantley left his team's 21-7 loss to the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday due to a concussion, reports Antonya English of the St. Petersburg Times. Brantley, in the midst of the worst game of his career, suffered the injury just prior to halftime when two Seminoles defenders collided with him. Brantley's father told English on Sunday that the quarterback is "fine" now. Before the concussion, Brantley had thrown three interceptons on Florida's five drives. Jacoby Brissett replaced him at quarterback and struggled mightily, completing just 4-of-13 passes for 27 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Elsewhere, sophomore linebacker Darrin Kitchens is out of the hospital after tests showed his neck injury is not severe. He took a helmet-to-helmet hit on the second-half kickoff and lay on the field for 10 minutes before trainers finally strapped him to a board and carted him away, fearing he may have severely injured his neck. "Florida athletic officials said tests on his neck were negative," English reports, "but he was diagnosed with a concussion." Kitchens has 21 tackles (nine solo) this season.
