Dante Fowler Flips Commitment To Florida Gators Over Florida State

Dante Fowler, ranked as a five-star recruit by most rating services, has committed to Florida, announcing the news on television on National Signing Day 2012. Fowler, who played for Lakewood High School (St. Petersburg, Fla.), chose the Florida Gators over Florida State, the other finalist for his services.

Up until recently, it had appeared that Fowler was committed to FSU, but it was difficult to say if his commitment was solid or not. He had expressed some concerns over being able to get consistent playing time with the Seminoles, and had been flirting with the Gators more and more in recent weeks:

Fowler was reportedly concerned about the Florida State depth chart, as the 'Noles already feature two All-America candidates in Brandon Jenkins and Bjoern Werner, as well as twoother five-star defensive end recruits in Chris Casher and Mario Edwards Jr., who confirmed earlier this week that he too would stick with his commitment to the Seminoles. Fowler thanked the Florida State Seminoles before saying that Florida was just the right place for him as he made his commitment official this morning. You can see an interview with Fowler on ESPN.

Fowler was the No. 28 recruit in the nation on Rivals.com's Top-100 list, and he is the third-best defensive end in this year's class.
