2012 NCAA Tournament Bracket Update: Where Bracket Stands After Losses By Florida St., USF

The state of Florida is down to just one team in the 2012 NCAA Tournament after losses by South Florida and Florida State over the weekend. The Bulls were a No. 12 seed so their stay past the first round was unexpected, but the Seminoles likely broke a lot of brackets with their loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats late on Sunday night.

The Bearcats move on to the Sweet 16 to face Ohio State, the No. 2 seed in the East Region, where the Seminoles' loss was the only upset heading into the Sweet 16. Syracuse, Ohio St. and Wisconsin are all still alive.

South Florida lost to Ohio over the weekend, and they'll have a pretty difficult matchup against North Carolina in the Sweet 16. The other side of the Midwest regional has N.C. State, the other surprising Sweet 16 team, facing Kansas.

Florida will face a very plucky Marquette side in the next round, while the top part of their West bracket played chalk. No. 1 seed Michigan State advanced to play No. 4 seed Louisville.

Xavier is the final double-digit seed to make it to the Sweet 16, and they'll have a difficult matchup against the very talented Baylor Bears. Meanwhile, top overall seed Kentucky will face Indiana, one of the teams they have already lost to this year.

NCAA Bracket 2012, Florida Vs. Norfolk State Final Score: Gators Dominate 84-50

The Florida Gators have punched their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen with a dominating defeat of the upstart Norfolk State Spartans. Right from the opening tip, the Gators pounced all over Norfolk State jumping out to a massive lead, taking a 47-19 lead at halftime. The Gators took their foot off the gas just a bit in the second half, but were still able to win by 34 points, 84-50. The star of Norfolk State, Kyle O'Quinn was a complete non-factor for the Spartans as he was in foul trouble all evening, finishing up with just four points and three rebounds.

The Gators on the other hand just went to work, completely out matching the Spartans, shooting 52.8 percent from the floor. Kenny Boynton led the Gators in scoring on the night, picking up 20 points and eight rebounds. Bradley Beal added 14 points and 9 rebounds while Erving Walker picked up 15 points. With the victory, the Gators move on to the Sweet Sixteen to take on Marquette later in the week.

NCAA Tournament 2012, Florida Vs. Norfolk State Score Update: Gators Lead, 47-19

It appears as if the Norfolk State Spartans have run out of magic. The Florida Gators are pummeling Norfolk in every aspect of the game and hold a 47-19 halftime lead.

NCAA Tournament 2012: Norfolk State Shocks Missouri, 86-84

The first big upset of the 2012 season took place when the No. 15 seed Norfolk State stunned the No. 2 Missouri Tigers 86-84 in Omaha on Friday.

Led by Kyle O'Quinn's 26 points and 14 rebounds, the Spartans used a hot shooting day to out-gun the Tigers. The two teams struggled for control in the second half. A breakthrough happened when a 7-0 run by Norfolk State gave the Spartans a 81-75 cushion with 2:17 to play.

Despite leading 85-81 with 17 seconds left, the Spartans could not put the Tigers away. Down 86-84, Phil Pressey's three point attempt fell short, giving Norfolk one of the biggest upsets in the past decade.

Norfolk State will now look to keep their Cinderella run going in the third round against the Florida Gators on Sunday.

March Madness Bracket 2012, Florida Vs. Virginia Final Score: Gators Blow Out Cavaliers 71-45

The Florida Gators couldn't shoot to save their lives in the first half, but went into the locker room with an eight-point lead. It shouldn't be the least bit surprising, then, that they were able to blow out the Virginia Cavaliers once they figured out how to put the ball in the basket. Kenny Boynton did not make a three in the game, but the Gators bench was fantastic in their 71-45 win.

Patric Young was 6-6 with 13 points off the bench, while Casey Prather was 6-7 for 14 points. Virginia didn't live up to their reputation for playing great defense and slowing the game down, as Florida shot 53 percent and scored 71 points even though they were only 4-23 from beyond the arc. It was simply a bad day for Tony Bennett's team, who will go home disappointed.

Florida moves on to face the winner of Friday afternoon's Missouri - Norfolk State game.

Florida Vs. Virginia Halftime Score: Gators Up 30-22

It's been a great defensive half for the Florida Gators in their first NCAA Tournament game, and incredibly, they're leading without shooting the ball well at all. Florida leads the Virginia Cavaliers 30-22 at halftime, but they're shooting just 1-15 from behind the three-point arc. Tony Bennett's team is keeping the pace and the score low as they would like, but he won't be happy that Florida is ahead even though they can't shoot the three.

UVA's star Mike Scott is doing well with eight points and four rebounds, but he hasn't had much offensive help from his teammates. Virginia is shooting just 38 percent from the field. Florida has seven offensive rebounds to UVA's one, and that's been a big difference between the teams. Florida can't make threes, but they're doing a decent job of getting second chance points.

March Madness 2012: Florida Vs. Virginia Preview

The Florida Gators will get their NCAA Tournament run underway on Friday when they take on the Virginia Cavaliers in a 7/10 matchup. The game starts at 2:10 pm and can be found on TNT.

There isn't really much of a difference between these teams other than pre-season expectations and the Conference they play in. The Gators have one more win than the Cavaliers both overall and in Conference, but they are the higher seed by a slight margin. The Cavaliers are led by first-team all ACC selection Mike Scott, one of the best players in the Nation. Despite the difference in seeding, the Cavaliers should not be taken lightly.
