Florida State Football Recruiting 2012: National Signing Day Recap

The Florida State Seminoles had a mixed bag of results on National Signing Day yesterday. While they closed the day with one of the top-10 recruiting classes in the nation, they didn't do quite as well as they may have hoped. Entering the day with the potential to challenge for the best recruiting class in the nation, the Seminoles missed out on a few big recruits in Tracy Howard (Miami), Josh Harvey-Clemons (Georgia), and Dante Fowler Jr. (Florida).

Despite these misses, head coach Jimbo Fisher brought on a total of 18 recruits, 12 of whom are rated as four- or five-star players by Rivals.com. This group is headlined by defensive linemen Mario Edwards and Eddie Goldman, quarterback Jameis Winston, and running back Mario Pender.

As the writers over at Tomahawk Nation put it, this class may be on the smaller side, but its overall depth and strength is impressive:

What you don't see are a lot of "ifs." This class isn't something which requires a lot of effort to envision success. Florida State faced stiff competition from major BCS programs for almost every kid in this class, and came out on top. On a per-position player basis (no kickers and punters, as they do not receive four or five-star ratings), Florida State's 2012 recruiting class is without peer.
