Florida State's Michael Snaer Wins 2012 ACC Tournament MVP

The Florida State Seminoles won their first-ever ACC Tournament Championship on Sunday afternoon. Junior guard and former McDonald's All-American Michael Snaer took home MVP honors, after a hot-hand in the first half pushed the Noles to a lead over North Carolina that they would not relinquish.

Snaer had 54 points in the Seminoles' three game, three day run to the title. He missed only one attempt from three-point range in each game, finishing an impressive nine of 12 from behind the arc during the tournament. Just this week, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski praised Snaer as the best competitor in the league:

"I think (Michael) Snaer is a damn good player," Blue Devils coach Mike Kryzyzewski said. "He's an outstanding athlete, he's smart, and I think he's the best competitor in our league."

It's a fitting honor after such a successful season and week in Atlanta.

2012 ACC Tournament Championship, Florida State Vs. North Carolina Recap: Seminoles Win First Ever ACC Title

The Florida State Seminoles held on for a 85-82 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday to win their first ever ACC Tournament Championship. The Seminoles had an incredible tournament run, beating Duke and North Carolina in the span of 24 hours and beating both storied programs for the second time this season. The Heels had a last second look from P.J. Hairston to tie it, but it hit the back of the iron and the 'Noles celebrated at mid court with their first title. Video of Hairston's last second heave below:

Junior Michael Snaer led FSU with 18 points. Snaer was a huge part of FSU's big first half, which gave the Seminoles a 9-point lead heading into the locker room. He hit four of five attempts from three-point range as FSU hit 58 percent from the floor on Carolina's defense. Deividas Dulkys added 16 points for Leonard Hamilton's club, hitting four three-pointers. Luke Loucks had a double-double, dishing 13 assists and scoring 10 points as he facilitated the Seminole offense during their huge first half.

Florida State responded to every UNC run in an impressive effort that rounded out an impressive week in Atlanta. They head into the big dance with a ton of momentum and confidence with their first ACC title under their belt.

2012 ACC Tournament Championship, Florida State Vs. North Carolina: Seminoles Offense Rolling With 9-Point Lead At Half

The Florida State Seminoles are twenty minutes from their first ACC Championship, leading the North Carolina Tar Heels 49-40 after the first half. It was an entertaining up-and-down first half, with the Noles setting a blistering pace and shooting 63 percent from the floor. FSU bombed from three-point range when they ran Carolina off the floor in Tallahassee, and they've hit 54 percent from behind the arc so far today. UNC simply could not get any stops on the defensive end, and the Seminoles led by as many as 16 before a late run by the Heels' Harrison Barnes closed the lead to nine.

Senior leader Michael Snaer did it all in the first half, hitting three of three attempts from behind the arc and leading the Noles with 15 points. Snaer was impressive as he tries to lead FSU to their first title. Video of his big first half below:

Luke Loucks has been a maestro with the ball so far, orchestrating the offense and dishing eight assists. It was all FSU until Barnes went off in the final two minutes to cut the lead down. Barnes matched Snaer with 15 points but again, UNC will need to slow down the FSU offense to get back in it - a task made all the more difficult by John Henson's absence.

ACC Tournament 2012, Florida State Vs. Duke Final Score: Noles Hold On To Win 62-59

The Noles continued to hold their lead over the Duke Blue Devils to open the second half, but after a time out from Duke to recollect themselves the Blue Devils were able to even up the score and even take a lead at one point. The Noles themselves took a time out and got back on track, re-tacking the lead on a big dunk. The teams went back and forth in the final five minutes of the game.

In the final two minutes of the game, Ian Miller fouled out on an easy offensive foul call and left the Noles with one less scorer on the bench. Both teams scoring slowed down significantly in the final two minutes. In the final minute however, Mason Plumlee fouled out on a block far, far away from the basket and put Florida State in the bonus, allowing them to add an easy two points and push their lead to three points.

After Duke pulled back within a point, the Noles ran Michael Snaer as a decoy as the team burned time off the clock but Luke Loucks drained a shot that wound up being two points, as his foot was on the line putting FSU's lead to three points. The Noles held on to win 62-59 and will take on North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game on Sunday.

ACC Tournament 2012, Florida State Vs. Duke Score Update: Noles Hold 33-31 Lead At Halftime

The Florida State Seminoles and Duke Blue Devils are battling for the final spot in the ACC Tournament to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday. The Noles struck first on the scoreboard, but the teams duked it out trading buckets until about four minutes left in the game when the Noles began adding a lead, getting it started with a nice steal and dunk by guard Michael Snaer.

As Florida State pulled a little bit of a lead, Duke found themselves in a bit of foul trouble when guard Austin Rivers picked up his third foul of the game and was forced to sit for the final two-minutes of the half. Duke was able to hit a few shots and force a turnover on an in-bound pass to to pull within one point. The Noles enter halftime with a 33-31 lead, but really should be leading by much more.

A couple of animated gifs kind of give you a good idea of the game. Another example of Snaer's excellent defense with a block and one of the Plumlees with a really bad turnover, trying to pass the ball to the ref with under a minute left as Duke was trying to take the lead.

ACC Tournament 2012: Bracket, Schedule And More

The semifinal matchups of the 59th ACC Men's Basketball Tournament are set, with the Florida State Seminoles playing in the second game of the day against the Duke Blue Devils.

The first semifinal of the day will see North Carolina, the top seed in this year's tournament, take on Mark Gottfried's North Carolina State Wolfpack. The Wolfpack's run to the semifinals, which included a win over Virginia on Friday, just may be enough to get off the team off bubble and in to the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Florida State will take on Duke in the second semifinal. The Blue Devils squeaked out a four point win over Virginia Tech to reach the semifinals, while Florida State advanced courtesy of an 11 point win over Miami. The familiar foes split their regular season contests, with Florida State winning at Duke in late January and Duke winning in Tallahassee one month later.

Florida State Vs. Miami: Seminoles Blow By Hurricanes 82-71

The Florida State Seminoles held off a Miami rally and secured an 82-71 win in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal in Atlanta Friday night. The win sets up a semifinal match-up between the No. 3 seed Seminoles and the No. 2 seed Duke Blue Devils that will tip off at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The Seminoles led for most of the evening, having taken the lead for good on an Ian Miller three-pointer that made the score 12-9 with 13:08 to go in the first half. Florida State's lead expanded to 36-27 at halftime after the Seminoles had led by as many as 13 points.

Miami cut the lead to 62-59 after a Kenny Kadji jumper with 3:58 remaining, but Ian Miller's jumper made the score 64-59 and the Seminoles scored the next six points to put the result beyond doubt.

Five Seminoles finished in double figures, led by Michael Snaer (20 points). Miami was led by Malcolm Grant's 19 points.

ACC Tournament Schedule 2012: Florida State Vs. Miami Game Time, TV Coverage And More

The nightcap of the the ACC tournament quarterfinals has the Florida State Seminoles playing the Miami Hurricanes in a game that could decide the NCAA tournament chances of one team.

The Miami Hurricanes got to the quarterfinals by defeating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 54-36. After trailing the Yellow Jackets by one at halftime, guard Rion Brown hit a pair of three pointers as part of his 10 points off the bench to spark Miami on an 18-0 run to end the game. Guard Shane Larkin led the Hurricanes with 12 points, while guard Durand Scott scored 11 points. Forward Reggie Johnson only scored 7 points but pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the Hurricanes in that category.

The Florida State Seminoles are looking to avoid a third straight early exit from the ACC tournament, losing to North Carolina State and Virginia Tech the last two years. To do that they will need a big game from guard Michael Snaer, averaging 14.1 points per game.

While the Seminoles appear to be headed back to the NCAA tournament, Miami more than likely needs a win over Florida State to give them a push off of the bubble and into the tournament.

The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. tip off, depending on the finish of the prior game between Duke and Virginia Tech. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 as well as Raycom Sports. It will also be available streaming on ESPN3.com.

ACC Tournament Schedule Day Two: Game Times, TV Coverage And More

The first day of the 2012 ACC Tournament got off without any real upsets, as all the chalk all made it through the first round on Thursday.

The Maryland Terrapins started off the day with a blowout win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 82-60. The Terps held just a five point lead at halftime, but really took it to the Deacons in the second half. Maryland's reward for their 22 point victory is a matchup in the second round against the top seeded North Carolina Tar Heels.

North Carolina State also had a dominant victory in their first round matchup against Boston College, crushing the Eagles 78-57 in the opening round. It was a dominant win for the Wolfpack from start to finish. In the next round, N.C. State will match up with Virginia, who the Wolfpack lost to by just one point in the regular season.

In the closest game of the first round, the Virginia Tech Hokies were able to get past the Clemson Tigers 68-63. Tech trailed the Tigers 35-30 at halftime, but were able to rally back to pick up the victory. In the second round of the tournament the Hokies will face off with the Duke Blue Devils.

While the game was a blow out win for the Miami Hurricanes, it was perhaps the worst game to watch of the first round of the tournament. At halftime, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets held a 20-19 lead over the Hurricanes, but the Miami offense finally hit it's groove in the second half to blow out the Yellow Jackets and move on to the next round. In the second round of the tournament, the Hurricanes will take on the Florida State Seminoles in the final game of the second round on Friday.

ACC Tournament 2012, Georgia Tech Vs. Miami Final Score: Hurricanes Run Away In Second Half, 54-36

The Miami Hurricanes trailed the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 21-20 at halftime, but you wouldn't have guessed that looking at the final score. The Hurricanes blew out the Yellow Jackets in the second half, pouring on 35 points to walk away with the 54-36 victory.

With the win, the Hurricanes move on in the ACC Tournament and will face off against in-state rival Florida State on Friday evening. The Hurricanes split the regular season series with the Seminoles, so the rubber match will have to come in the second round of the ACC Tournament.

ACC Tournament 2012, Georgia Tech Vs. Miami Score Update: Hurricanes Trail 20-19 At The Half

In the final game of the first round of the 2012 ACC Tournament, the Miami Hurricanes trail the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at halftime 20-19. The Hurricanes have really struggled shooting the ball in the first half, especially from the three-point line. Miami has hit on just one of their nine three-point shots and are shooting just 24 percent overall from the floor. In the first half, Durand Scott leads the Canes in scoring with seven points and three rebounds.

For the Yellow Jackets, they haven't faired much better from the three-point line shooting just two of ten. Mfon Udofia leads Tech in scoring in the first half with eight points while Brandon reed added five points. Unlike the Hurricanes however, the Yellow Jackets have gotten zero scoring from their bench in the first half.

ACC Tournament Bracket 2012: Miami Vs. Georgia Tech Time, TV Coverage And More

The Miami Hurricanes are playing for their NCAA tournament lives on Thursday night as they play their first round ACC tournament game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. tip off, however it is dependent on what time the prior game, Clemson vs. Virginia Tech, ends. The game will be broadcast live on Raycom Sports.

The Hurricanes right now are projected out by many bracketologists, including SBNation's own Chris Dobbertean. The Hurricanes must win tonight to help their tournament status. A win tonight would set up a Friday night showdown against the Florida State Seminoles. A win in that game would more than likely assure the Hurricanes an NCAA tournament bid.

ACC Tournament 2012 Bracket Day One: Game Times, TV Schedule And More

The first game of the day is the 8-9 game between Maryland and Wake Forest. It begins at Noon. The two teams have already met once this year and the Terps walked away with a 70-64 win. The winner of that game gets No. 1 seed North Carolina on Friday.
