FSU DE Brandon Jenkins Done For The Year With Lisfranc Injury

Florida State has issued a statement on the season ending injury to senior defensive end Brandon Jenkins, who injured his foot in the Seminoles' season opener against Murray State.

"After receiving information late in the afternoon following an MRI and a weight bearing X-Ray and also awaiting to talk to Brandon Jenkins and his mother, it was determined that Brandon will miss the 2012 season with a Lisfranc injury," Fisher said in the press release.

The 6'3, 260-pound Jenkins was the ACC's leader in sacks last season and he's totaled 21.5 sacks over the last two seasons. He was hurt in the first half of a game that FSU turned out to win handily, 69-3.

Here's Tomahawk Nation with some perspective:

Before anything can be said about the impact on the team itself, you have to just feel for Jenkins when you hear news like this. He's a proven commodity at the college level who easily could have taken the money and entered the 2012 NFL Draft, where he would've likely been a first or second round selection. Instead, Jenkins, a player who committed to FSU before it returned to national relevance, chose to return for one more go-around in garnet and gold, a season with aspirations for a national championship.

Junior college transfer Tank Carradine is expected to step in for Jenkins this season.

Brandon Jenkins Injury: Blog Reaction To Loss Of Defensive Star

The Florida State Seminoles got some bad news on Monday, when it was learned that defensive end Brandon Jenkins was lost for the season with a left foot injury.

After beating the Murray State Racers 69-3 at Doak Campbell Stadium over the weekend, the Seminole fans were feeling good. Over at Tomahawk Nation, Bud Elliott summed up the feelings of many.

Jenkins was a strong All-America candidate and a multi-time All-Conference selection. He was arguably the best player on Florida State's defense, and forwent a chance to be a high NFL draft choice, instead electing to return for his senior season.

Florida State is loaded at defensive end, but the Seminoles will not be able to replace Jenkins. This is a major hit for the defense.

Losing a potential NFL first-round pick is never easy to swallow, but Florida St. is extremely deep on the defensive line with a bevy of talented defenders.
