Blaine Gabbert injury: Jaguars quarterback has torn labrum, according to report

Jason O. Watson

Blaine Gabbert suffered a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder in the Jacksonville Jaguars' loss Sunday, meaning the team might have to go with Chad Henne at quarterback this week after the offense sputtered with him at the helm last week.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are unsure about the status of quarterback Blaine Gabbert for Week 8 after he tore his labrum in his non-throwing shoulder in a loss to the Oakland Raiders.

ESPN.com reported that Gabbert would seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews before the team moves forward on his status for the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers. Obviously, the injury would be a major problem if it came in Gabbert's throwing shoulder, but the injury could still sideline him. Gabbert would likely be playing through serious pain in the shoulder, which could affect his ability to run the offense.

The Jaguars turned to Chad Henne last week in Gabbert's absence, and the offense sputtered. Henne completed only nine of 20 passes for 71 yards, and the team blew a 17-6 halftime lead -- almost entirely obtained with Gabbert in charge -- to fall 26-23 in overtime. Henne would presumably start Sunday if Gabbert cannot go; the team's only other quarterback is practice squad player John Parker Wilson.
