Jaguars Mini-Camp: Josh Scobee, Maurice Jones-Drew Not Attending

The Jacksonville Jaguars are opening up a veteran orientation camp on Tuesday, but they will be without two of their best players. Josh Scobee will not be present because he has yet to sign his franchise tender, meaning that he is not allowed to attend the workout. Meanwhile Maurice Jones-Drew is in California, and it is possible that he is holding out to try and get a new contract. Our Jaguars blog Big Cat Country speculated that this might occur a few weeks ago.

Luckily for the players, these workouts are still considered voluntary and according to Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union, they can not be punished for not attending.

Missing a voluntary workout or practice is not considered a holdout and teams are not allowed to punish players for missing them. Some players skip voluntary workouts to make statements about their contracts, but Jones-Drew’s contract does not expire for two more seasons.
