Wide reciever Laurent Robinson was one of the bright spots for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He caught 54 passes for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns. What was just as impressive was his performance against top-tier cornerbacks in the NFL. He's done such a good job against them in his career, that KC Joyner of ESPN has named him a 'Matchup Buster.'
A 'Matchup Buster' according to Joyner is a receiver that averages over eight yards per attempt against cornerbacks that allow less than nine yards per attempt. Robinson for his efforts, averages 9.7 yards per attempt. Joyner says in his summary of Robinson, that if quarterback Blaine Gabbert can't improve his numbers with both Robinson and rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon, the Jaguars may have to go back to the drawing board at quarterback.
Robinson took full advantage of the opportunity placed before him in 2011, and his showing in this statistic proves that he did so despite concerted defensive efforts to stop him. If Blaine Gabbert can't appreciably improve his numbers by throwing to Robinson and Justin Blackmon, the Jaguars will know they need a new quarterback
The Jaguars certainly hope that Robinson will be a receiver that can be that top target for Gabbert so that they won't have to address the position yet again.
