Maurice Jones-Drew Thinks Someone Can Break Emmitt Smith's Record

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew thinks that he could have a chance to break Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record. Can his body hold up under the stress of playing in the NFL?

Jacksonville Jaguars holdout running back Maurice Jones-Drew did an interview with CZ & Kreckman of 102.3 The Ticket in Denver and while his contract was a main topic of discussion with the two radio personalities, the subject shifted to whether or not someone could ever break the all-time rushing record, held by Emmitt Smith.

Not only did Jones-Drew think that someone could, he thinks that he has a very good chance.

"Yeah, I think it's doable. I definitely think it's doable. Once again, Emmitt Smith was in a different situation than a lot of us, though. I mean, he had a Hall of Fame receiver, Hall of Fame quarterback, Hall of Fame offensive line, Hall of Fame fullback. Whoever put that team together did a heck of a job, and it just showed. ... Don't get me wrong: he was the reason they won, but he had a lot of guys around him as well."

Well if Jones-Drew thinks that he can break Smith's record, he has to hope that his body will be able sustain his early success. Smith rushed for 18,355 yards over 15 years in the league. After six seasons in the league, Jones-Drew has run for 6,854 yards. Its a stiff challenge to be sure, given that running backs break down quicker than most players in professional football.
