Justin Blackmon DUI: Jaguars WR Pleads Guilty, Avoids Jail Time

Justin Blackmon plead guilty on Tuesday to the charges of aggravated DUI back in Stillwater, Okla., according to an article by Josh Katzowitz on CBS Sports. He was given a one year deferred sentence, meaning that he will not go to jail unless he fails to complete his other terms, 50 hours of community service and a fine of $500.

Blackmon has still yet to sign a contract with the Jaguars. One of the reasons why it has probably taken the two of them so long to get them done is the fact that the Jaguars may not be willing to pay as much in guaranteed money because of his arrests.

Because he had this problem with drinking while at Oklahoma State, he will likely enter the NFL's substance abuse program to make sure that he will not fall off the wagon again.

Justin Blackmon Impacted By 'Powerful' Symposium Lessons

In the months since being drafted by the Jaguars with the fifth overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft, Justin Blackmon has been in the headlines often. Unfortunately it has little to do with his wide receiver skills and much more to do with his June 4 arrest for aggravated DUI.

At the rookie symposium Blackmon heard speeches from several athletes that made very public mistakes similar to his and he told Alex Marvez and Vic Carucci of SiriusXM NFL Radio that the speeches held a little more weight to him.

"It's powerful any time you have a player share something that happened bad for him they could have avoided."

Among the players that spoke to Blackmon were Terrell Owens and Adam "Pacman" Jones, both of whom certainly had personal errors during their career.

"Using your resources the NFL has for you -- that's the thing you hear throughout each day," Blackmon said. "From a lot of players we heard from (in seminars), they tried to do it on their own and it didn't end up so well. That's the biggest thing I've gathered."

Justin Blackmon DUI: Arrest Video Released

The arrest video for rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon was released by First Coast News this afternoon. Blackmon was arrested almost two weeks ago outside of Stillwater, Oklahoma for a blood-alcohol level almost three times the legal limit. As a result, he was charged with aggravated DUI.

This is the second such incident for the talented wideout from Oklahoma State. In 2010 he was charged with driving under the influence as well. In this incident, Blackmon has entered a plea of not guilty and a hearing is expected on July 24th.

The fifth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft isn't getting his career started off on the right foot, to say the least.

With a heavy handed commissioner in Roger Goodell who has a zero-tolerance policy for behavior such as this, it's not a good thing that Blackmon has already drawn Goodell's attention for something other than his performance on the field.

And this video doesn't help things, either.

Justin Blackmon DUI: Jaguars WR Vows Off Drinking At Press Conference

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon joined General Manager Gene Smith and head coach Mike Mularkey at a press conference on Wednesday, where he publicly apologized for his aggravated DUI arrest in Stillwater, Okla. on Sunday. In addition to that, the No. 5 overall draft pick vowed off drinking, at least for the time being.

Both Smith and Mularkey admonished Blackmon's actions at the press conference, but also were very upfront in saying that he has an opportunity to turn things around and be a better person because of this. Smith, who spearheaded the decision to draft Blackmon at No. 5, talked about how they felt about Blackmon when learning about his previous arrest in 2010.

Mularkey said after the press conference that Blackmon will participate in the Jaguars Caravan this weekend. Blackmon does have an opportunity to begin repairing his image, so here's hoping that he succeeds.

Justin Blackmon Arrest: Team Official Says Wide Receiver Must 'Fess Up'

Justin Blackmon's DUI arrest has to do with ... Justin Blackmon, according to one Jacksonville Jaguars official. On Sunday, the rookie wide receiver was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge after he was pulled by police at 3 a.m. and subsequently registered a .24 on a breathalyzer test, which is about three times the legal limit.

"It has nothing to do with anyone but [Blackmon]," the official told The Sports Xchange on Monday. "We'll deal with him on this incident ... not any ghosts of the past. It's (look in the) mirror time. He's going to have to 'fess up,' take ownership of the situation, and lay out a course for dealing with this thing head-on."

A press conference, along with Jaguars GM Gene Smith and head coach Mike Mularkey will be held tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. EST to discuss Blackmon's off-the-field incident., according to Associated Press reporter Mark Long. Blackmon will also be present

Justin Blackmon Arrest: Oklahoma DA Wants A Guilty Plea For DUI Or Will Go To Trial

The news just keeps getting worse for Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon. On Monday, he was arrested for a DUI in his college town, Stillwater, Ok. He plead not guilty on Monday following the incident. On Monday afternoon, Vito Stellino of Jacksonville.com reported that the Oklahoma district attorney said that they will not plea bargain with Blackmon to reduce the charge.

Stellino reports that the DA wants a guilty plea from Blackmon. Otherwise, they plan to take the matter to trial. That could result in a much longer ordeal for the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, including jail time.

According to Stellino, the DA also revealed that Blackmon initially recorded a blood alcohol level of .26 on the breathalyzer test. A second test pinned him at .24, still three times the legal limit. Blackmon was described as "argumentative" when officers pulled him over on Monday morning. According to the police report he said, "I just flew in. I don't know why you are harassing me."

First-time offenders, per the DA, usually get mandatory treatment and probation. A judge could still give Blackmon jail time.

Justin Blackmon DUI: Jaguars Receiver Will Get Smaller Signing Bonus, Less Guaranteed Money In Rookie Contract

Justin Blackmon's Monday morning arrest for a DUI in Stillwater, Ok., is going to the cost him some money. Beyond the legal fees and any potential suspensions, the fifth overall pick could see his off-field troubles reflected in his rookie contract.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jacksonville Jaguars are likely to give their rookie wide receiver a smaller, deferred signing bonus as well as less guaranteed money.

Blackmon's DUI arrest was his second in a 20-month span. The first one occurred before he turned 21, the legal drinking age. The receiver had a blood alcohol level of .24, three times the legal limit of .08, during his most recent arrest.

He plead not guilty to the charge, and has a hearing scheduled for July 24. There was talk of a financial impact to his rookie contract earlier on Monday. Schefter's most recent update would appear to confirm that.

Justin Blackmon DUI: Jaguars Could Structure Contract To Protect Themselves

Ever since the DUI arrest for wide receiver Justin Blackmon, there has been buzz around his contract situation. Blackmon has not yet been signed by Jacksonville so his recent arrest is likely to cost him money right away. In addition to that, the Jaguars are attempting to write language into his contract that could protect the franchise, monetarily, should he get arrested again.

With Blackmon possibly facing disciplinary action by the NFL office, the Jaguars want to protect themselves from any possible losses that could be incurred if Blackmon winds up being suspended. The Jaguars spent a high pick on Blackmon to help quarterback Blaine Gabbert, so they hope that this won't continue.

Justin Blackmon Arrested: Jaguars Receiver Is Subject To NFL Discipline

Although Justin Blackmon may not be signed to an NFL contract yet, however he may still be subject to discipline from the NFL according to NFL.com reporter Dan Hanzus. Blackmon was arrested Sunday morning and charged with Aggravated DUI after blowing a .24 BAC after an officer pulled him over.

Hanzus points out that while this may be the second time that Blackmon has been arrested for a DUI, this is the first time he has done so while technically a member of the NFL. That could mean that he may be placed in the league's intervention program and be subject to random testing.

Aggravated DUI can be viewed as a misdemeanor or a felony. Blackmon will find out his fate at a court hearing Monday morning.

Justin Blackmon Arrested: Could He Face Punishment From Jaguars Or NFL?

With Justin Blackmon being arrested with his second DUI on Sunday morning, questions over whether the rookie wide receiver should face some sort of punishment from the Jacksonville Jaguars or the NFL have been raised.

Big Cat Country examines the situation, and finds through the new CBA who would be responsible for disciplining Blackmon.

"I wouldn't be opposed since it's his second offense and he obviously didn't learn from the first one, but the problem is under the new Collective Bargain Agreement, I'm not sure the team is allowed to. Section 6 of Article 42 states that teams are not allowed to punish players for violating the league's substance abuse program."

If the offense is not considered to be one under the drug policy, the team may be the ones to decide on his fate.

"Then again, this begs to question if alcohol related incidents fall under the NFL drug policy or if they fall under something different. If it does not fall under the NFL drug policy it most likely falls under the catch-all of "Conduct Detrimental To Club"...If it falls under this category, than the team may be able to suspend Blackmon without pay for up to four weeks (games)."

All in all, no matter who is handeling the situation it will be interesting to see how this plays out down the road.
