Jaguars Training Camp: Mike Thomas Struggling, Wide Receiver Falls Down The Depth Chart

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Mike Thomas has been struggling in the opening stages of training camp this year. The struggles are so bad that he has been bumped down the depth chart behind fellow receiver Cecil Shorts, according to The Florida Times-Union's Vito Sellino.

Mike Thomas has struggled in camp and the Jaguars moved second-year receiver Cecil Shorts ahead of him. Shorts is now practicing with the first team at the Z position, which Blackmon is expected to fill when he arrives.

The demotion means that the Jaguars now have a pretty expensive backup. This past March the Jaguars gave him a $3.5 million roster bonus and $1.45 million of his current contract is guaranteed.

This is all before wide receiver Justin Blackmon has shown up, if he takes the spot that Shorts has, that means that Thomas could potentially be third string on the roster entering the 2012-13 season. If that's the case it could spell trouble for the receiver's future. After catching 66 passes in 2010, his productivity dropped to 44 catches for 415 and only one touchdown in 2011.
