Falcons Vs. Jaguars Reaction: Blaine Gabbert, Laurent Robinson Not On The Same Page

The Jacksonville Jaguars had strong play from their backups on Thursday, which enabled them to rectify some early mistakes and get out of there with a win over the Atlanta Falcons. Blaine Gabbert fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, which put the Falcons on the 5-yard line and led to an Atlanta touchdown. It wasn't until Chad Henne came in during the second half to really get things going.

Henne hit Kevin Elliott for a 77-yard touchdown pass to cap a 99-yard, four-play drive, and the Jaguars were rolling. But what's most concerning is what happened in the first half with Gabbert. Outside of the poor toss play, Gabbert seemed off with his receivers on the day. SB Nation's Big Cat Country talked about some issues with one receiver in particular, Laurent Robinson:

So far through the preseason Robinson has been targeted 13 times and has just two catches for 18 yards. The real problem isn't necessarily his underwhelming stat line through four preseason games, but more so the fact that Robinson and Gabbert just don't seem to be on the same page.

Gabbert has connected with receivers Mike Thomas and Justin Blackmon with seemingly minimal effort and accurate throws. With Robinson however, his throws seem to be either behind the receiver, leading him too far, or with Robinson slowing up to track the ball and it falling just past him. It's oddly consistent.

The post also notes some issues Robinson had in camp with his timing. It talks about how receivers coach Jerry Sullivan had to tell Robinson to stop slowing up when Gabbert throws a pass. At any rate, Gabbert does seem to have a decent thing going on with some of the other receivers, like Mike Thomas and Justin Blackmon. It will be interesting to see if he can Robinson can get on the same page.

Jaguars Injury Update: Uche Nwaneri Down With Ankle Sprain Following Final Preseason Game

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had some issues with their offensive line this preseason. That is to say, they have issues with injuries decimating the unit. On Thursday evening against the Atlanta Falcons, they added another injury to the list. Guard Uche Nwaneri left the game early when quarterback Blaine Gabbert tried to toss the ball to Rashard Jennings, but the ball was mis-handled and bounced off of the back of fullback Greg Jones.

There was a scramble and Nwaneri went down. He was slow to get up, and was announced that he would be out for the rest of the game with an ankle sprain. SB Nation's Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, notes that Nwaneri was in a walking boot after the game, via the Associated Press.

As of Friday morning, there's no official word on Nwaneri's status. The severity of his injury is unknown, as ankle sprains can vary drastically in severity from one to another. Nwaneri was mostly covered by Mike Brewster in the game after he went down with the injury.

Jaguars Vs. Falcons Final Score: Jacksonville Overcomes Gabbert's Early Mistake, Tops Atlanta 24-14

Blaine Gabbert's early fumble put the Jacksonville Jaguars in a hole early, but the Jaguars rebounded, scoring 17 points in the second half to walk away from their final preseason game with a 24-14 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Gabbert's fumble occurred on the first play from scrimmage, giving the Falcons the ball at their own 5-yard line, which they quickly converted into a touchdown. The Jaguars were able to hold the Falcons to those seven points in the first half and went into the locker room for halftime tied 7-7.

Chad Henne replaced Gabbert in the second half and got things going for Jacksonville quickly, connecting with Kevin Elliott for a 77-yard touchdown strike to cap a 99-yard, four-play drive.

Despite giving up a long touchdown reception to Atlanta in the third quarter, Jacksonville used a 10-point fourth quarter to put the game out of reach of the Falcons.

Falcons Vs. Jaguars Score Update: 7-7 Tie At Halftime

After a terrible start to the game for the Jaguars that included a lost fumble on the first offensive play and a touchdown allowed on the first defensive play of the game to fall behind by seven early. However, after the rough start the Jacksonville defense settled in and a 14-yard touchdown run by Jalen Parmele late in the first half tied the game 7-7.

Following a lost fumble on the first play, Blaine Gabbert and the starting offense for the Jaguars stayed in for two more drives. While the first stalled, the second drive lasted for 18-plays as the team methodically drove the field. However, the drive ended when a Gabbert throw intended for Laurent Robinson fell incomplete on a 4th & goal from the 1-yard line.

The sole injury for the Jaguars was an ankle injury for Uche Nwaneri, but early indications are that the injury for the starting guard isn't very serious.

Jaguars Vs. Falcons: Uche Nwaneri Leaves Game With Foot Injury

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Uche Nwaneri hobbled off the field in the first quarter of Jacksonville's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons with a left foot or ankle injury, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.

The first quarter injury in the team's final preseason game will be a blow to a Jaguars' offensive line that is already thin at almost every position. Nwaneri was projected as the starting right guard to begin the year and was one of the few lineman with significant game experience for new head coach Mike Mularkey.

Daniel Baldridge is currently listed as the backup to Nwaneri, but Jacksonville might look to the waiver wire if Nwaneri is out for an extended period of time.

Jaguars Depth Chart: Mike Mularkey Happy With RB Depth

The Jacksonville Jaguars still don't have star running back Maurice Jones-Drew, but coach Mike Mularkey is content with what he currently has available at that position. Rashad Jennings is set to start the team's Week 1 game.

"Yes it's really been a productive crew. The guys that have all had their chances to run the ball have done something to shine and they're going to get more reps obviously this week. We're not going to run Rashad [Jennings]. Montell Owens will probably not participate and the other guys will have plenty of reps to show their stuff. I've been really pleased with that position."

Jaguars' Eben Britton: 'The Nastiest, Most Violent Offensive Line In The NFL'

At a luncheon for fans on Wednesday, members of the Jacksonville Jaguars spoke positively about the future of the organization. Offensive lineman Eben Britton told people they could expect the Jaguars to have the "nastiest" offensive line in the league:

"We are going to be the nastiest, most violent offensive line in the NFL," Britton, an offensive lineman, said. "I can promise you, the offensive line is going to be a hell of a lot of fun to watch this year."

Montell Owens Injury: Jaguars RB Will Sit Vs. Falcons

Jacksonville Jaguars' running back Montell Owens will not play in the team's preseason finale Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons due to swelling and stiffness in his knee, according to a report on the Jaguars' official team site.

"We're going to hold him back," Jacksonville head coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday. "Just some stiffness In his knee and we're going to hold him out. There's no reason to risk it in this game."

With starting running back Maurice Jones-Drew still in the midst of a holdout, Owens was the team's top backup behind Rashad Jennings. In three games this preseason, the 5'10", 225-pound back carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards and scored one touchdown. He did not record a carry in Jacksonville's third preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Falcons Vs. Jaguars 2012: Game Preview, Kickoff Time, TV Schedule And More

The Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday, playing the final game of their 2012 preseason schedule. The Jaguars are 2-1 in the 2012 preseason, and 1-0 at home. Complete game time and television information is below.

The Jaguars starters are expected to see action in the game, but as is typical of the late preseason their reps will be limited, likely to no more than they can fit in the first quarter. That leaves the rest of the game for those fighting for a spot on the roster, such as the four rookie linebackers highlighted by SB Nation's Jaguars blog Big Cat Country:

Brandon Marshall, the fifth round selection of the Jaguars in the 2012 NFL Draft, is in a battle with three undrafted free agents (Joshua Jones, J.K. Schaffer and Julian Stanford) for the roster spots.

Check out the full post from Big Cat Country for insight into the position battle.

Game Time: 6:30 p.m. ET, Thursday Aug. 30

Jaguars Depth Chart: Rashean Mathis To Play In Nickel Packages

The Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night, in the team's fourth and final preseason game of the 2012 season. Though starters don't figure to play long — if at all — rehabbing Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis should play for a decent amount of time, as the team eases him back from an ACL injury.

Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said that Mathis will begin the season in nickel packages.

"I would say that right now, because I think we're still working on Rashean to get back to the level of play. He'd tell you the same thing," Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey said about Mathis starting Week 1. "He's probably not a hundred percent yet but he's working his way back to it. I think he can play. I am not sure he can play at the level he's capable of playing right now."

Jaguars fans can look for Mathis in the nickel on Thursday night, but Mathis might not play too much, given that it is the fourth preseason game, after all.

As Alfie Crow pointed out over at Big Cat Country, Derek Cox and Aaron Ross figure to start while Mathis continues to recover from his knee injury.

Jaguars Depth Chart: Cameron Bradfield Earns Starting Right Tackle Job

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Cameron Bradfield has worked his way into a starting role at right tackle, but it hasn't been easy. Bradfield caught on with Jacksonville after going undrafted in 2011, and wound up making two starts for the team. He came into this year's camp fourth in line at tackle.

This year, he came to camp as the fourth tackle behind Monroe, Britton and Guy Whimper.

But when guard Will Rackley went down at the start of camp, Britton moved to guard. Bradfield got the nod over Whimper at right tackle. Bradfield showed his versatility when he moved to left tackle when Monroe missed two games with a head injury. Bradfield also can play center.
