Derek Cox Injury: Jaguars CB Staying Positive

Cornerback Derek Cox hasn't been able to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars since hurting his hamstring in the team's first preseason game, but he has been practicing.

Cox, a fourth-year veteran drafted in the fourth round out of William and Mary, was held to only six games last year due to a knee injury and is raring to get back in action. But with the hamstring injury, he has to take it slowly and not reaggravate it. He missed the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings and was limited in practice Wednesday. He's looking forward to a full return and seeing the field again:

"Frustration is never good," he said. "It makes you hungrier, I’ll say that. … You’re hungry for when you get the opportunity to push it."

With Cox out, William Middleton took the open cornerback spot, and Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder completed 74.1 percent of his passes and threw for 270 yards, helping Minnesota win, 26-23, in overtime. Aaron Ross will likely get the matchup against Andre Johnson in Sunday's meeting with the Houston Texans.
