Ryan Tannehill injury: Dolphins optimistic about quick return

Stay connected for news and updates

The results of Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill's MRI on Monday showed no structural damage to his left knee, but it did show a bone bruise on the knee and a bruised quadricep. The Dolphins will know more about his status for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, but Tannehill and the Dolphins are optimistic about a quick return from his injury, according to Harvey Fialkov of The Sun-Sentinel.

Tannehill believed that he could have re-entered the game at any point, but head coach Joe Philbin was pleased with how well backup quarterback Matt Moore was playing. Philbin did acknowledge that on the trip back home, Tannehill was optimistic about playing next week against the Colts:

"He was optimistic on the plane,'' said Philbin, who never discusses details on injuries until Wednesday's official league report is due. "You would hope your players are [optimistic]. I don't know much, but it was a good conversation on the plane.''

If Tannehill is not ready to go on Sunday against the Colts, quarterback Pat Devlin would be the No. 2 quarterback behind Moore. The Colts and Dolphins play on Nov. 4 with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. and television coverage on CBS.
