Miami Dolphins OTAs 2012: Joe Philbin Emphasizes 'Fast Pace' In First Workout

OTAs for the Miami Dolphins began on Tuesday in Davie, Fla. -- the team's first full-squad practice since the 2011 season ended. One noticeable difference under its new head coach Joe Philbin: The pace. In short, it's a bit quicker.

"I was just asking our running backs coach, 'Is this going to be the tempo in the game?'" running back Reggie Bush said when speaking with reporters afterward. "We need to slow down a little bit to save some guys."

With 86 of the team's 89 players present, Philbin installed a new, fast-paced tempo, shortening the play clock during 11-on-11s and other drills in order to gt the team A.) quicker this spring and B.) get some guys in shape -- several reported to training camp last season overweight following the lockout.

Philbin told reports, though, that the team still has a "ways to go."
