David Garrard Ready To Play, Says Back Is Healthy

David Garrard had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back after being cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars before the start of the 2011 season. Since he has recovered and signed with the Miami Dolphins, he's been trying to show that he still can play the quarterback position effectively. So far, Garrard's back has held up well at minicamp and Garrard is full speed ahead to try and win the starting quarterback position, according to an article on Pro Football Talk by Michael David Smith.

"I was bad," Garrard told the Sun-Sentinel. "I could barely get in and out of the chair for two and a half, three months. . . . Finally, around halfway through January, I was looking like an athlete again." Garrard won't know until the preseason how his back holds up when he takes a hit from a 300-pound defensive lineman, but he said that during the Dolphins' recent minicamp he got through everything without trouble.

Matt Moore may have the inside track to starting for the Dolphins this season, as Ryan Tannehill still needs time to learn the position, but Garrard will make every effort to try and earn the job.
