Joe Philbin Has No Regrets About 'Hard Knocks'

The Miami Dolphins didn't win a preseason game, but that didn't sour head coach Joe Philbin on his experience with HBO's 'Hard Knocks' series. Philbin told NFL.com that he has no regrets of being a part of the show. He thinks it helped bond the team together and create a stronger connection with fans.

"I'm not sitting in my office and saying, 'Geez, why did we do that?' And if we win 15 games, it's not gonna be because they were here, just like if we lose 13 games, it won't be because they were here. It was a good experience, we met a lot of good people. That's really it."

The most dramatic moment of this year's series came with the release of receiver Chad Johnson following his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence. Philbin says he didn't relish having that shown on the air, but believed Johnson should be treated like any other player. "I just felt like it was the right thing to do," Philbin said. "But it wasn't easy."

'Hard Knocks' wrapped up with its final episode on Tuesday night. The Dolphins open the regular season against the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Chad Johnson Vows Return To NFL On 'Hard Knocks' Finale Cameo

Chad Johnson may have been released by the Miami Dolphins, but he insists that his NFL career is not over. The always talkative wide receiver released the following video stating his contrition over the incident that led to his release and insisted that he still had five years left in his career:

Johnson admit that he made mistakes, which led to his release from the Dolphins, but he also admits the need to start over:

"The Dolphins, I let them down," said Johnson during an occasionally profane montage showing the unemployed wide receiver working out on the beach and at the gym. "I messed up. I got to suffer the consequences. I made that bed I need to lay in it. So basically I got to start all over."

Among other information in the video is that Johnson got a tattoo of his soon-to-be ex-wife, Evelyn Lozada.

Joe Philbin Hopes The Dolphins Are Different In December

With the 2012 season opener against the Texans just five days away, Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin can see that his team needs quite a bit of improvement. Philbin said he hopes the team is better by the end of the year than it is now.

Of course, for better or worse, the Dolphins will be at least a little different by then. Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will have several weeks under his belt as an NFL starter. While the receiving corp may not be any better, the Dolphins will better know what they have at the position.

There is still a lot to learn about the Dolphins.

HBO 'Hard Knocks' 2012 Finale TV Time, Schedule And More

HBO's Hard Knocks featuring the Miami Dolphins reaches its end Tuesday night in the season finale. It's been an interesting few weeks for the Dolphins, as their business has been revealed in the media, further building up the show that would follow the next week.

A few weeks ago Chad Johnson was released from the team, not just for being arrested in a domestic dispute, but also for not being a very good wide receiver. As Dolphins fans know, they already had enough not-very-good receivers.

There was also the Vontae Davis trade and quarterback Ryan Tannehill not knowing anything about the league's division alignment.

This episode precedes the team's season opener against the Houston Texans, a game the Texans are expected to win easily. Let's see how the Dolphins end their reality TV program before the reality of football hits them. Fans should get a look at the 53-man roster cut from Friday.

Take a look at the schedule:

TV: HBO

Time: 8 p.m. ET

HBO 'Hard Knocks' 2012 TV Time, Schedule And More

HBO 'Hard Knocks': Dolphins Players React To Chad Johnson

Chad Johnson's abrupt time with the Miami Dolphins following his arrest for an alleged domestic dispute with his wife prompted Dolphins players Reggie Bush, Jake Long and Karlos Dansby to meet with head coach Joe Philbin, a conversation aired on HBO's "Hard Knocks" Tuesday night.

Dansby had aired his displeasure publicly on talk radio (640AM in Ft. Lauderdale), but the HBO cameras showed a calm but very serious meeting between the veterans and first-year head coach Philbin, with the final agreement being a veterans' leadership committee that would meet with the coach on a weekly basis.

It's worth noting that Johnson's situation wasn't exactly indicative of the team's normal policy with players. Mike Florio of PFT reports that Johnson, unlike any other player, had a one-strike policy that he violated:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Johnson was on a one-strike arrangement with the team. Coach Joe Philbin, who has welcomed plenty of distractions in the seven months since he took the job, ultimately didn’t want the added distraction of the criminal prosecution of one of his higher-profile players.

Reggie Bush Doesn't Seem Happy Being On 'Hard Knocks'

Judging from Reggie Bush's recent comments on The Dan Patrick Show, he isn't exactly thrilled about being featured on HBO's Hard Knocks. But after all, Bush is no stranger to the reality television scene, having dated Kim Kardashian on-and-off a couple of years back. He was featured on her family's reality television series.

That's a little different though, since it was less about what's going on with Bush's football team. One has to think that Chad Johnson's domestic violence arrest and subsequent release from the team has quite a bit to do with the lack of enthusiasm for all the attention thrown the team's way. Miami went 6-10 last season, to be clear.

Here's Bush on if he thinks it is a good thing or a bad thing to have the team featured on Hard Knocks:

"I don't know if it's good or bad but it is what it is right now. We have it so let's make the best of it. That's our mentality. I think you can make a case for both situations. When I was in New Orleans Coach Payton opted not to do ‘Hard Knocks' so I think you can make a case for both. Some coaches may feel that it's more of a distraction, some coaches may use it as fuel to bring back passion to the football team and do it for the fans purposes. So while you have it you make the most of it but you still have a job to do and you still have to focus in and kind of go about your business as if the cameras aren't even there."

2012 'Hard Knocks' Effect: Dolphins WR Chris Hogan Gets Face Time

Overnight celebrity he may not be, but Dolphins wideout Chris Hogan is certainly more of a household name than even he ever thought he'd be after Tuesday night's record-breaking episode of HBO's Hard Knocks.

Hogan, who had plenty of face time in an episode that had the attention of the sports world because of the Chad Johnson implications, has apparently gained a semblance of fame among Dolphins reporters and fans because of his exposure on the HBO program.

Undrafted after one season of football experience at Monmouth and three lacrosse seasons at Penn State, Hogan signed with the Dolphins late last year and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.

Running back Reggie Bush even anointed Hogan with a nickname on the episode, calling the wide receiver '7-Eleven' after the connivence store. There seems to be some controversy, however, about who actually came up with the name.

Davone Bess, Ryan Tannehill and Pat Devlin have all claimed or been given the rights to the name, but whoever it was, it's certainly gone further than anyone could have expected.

HBO 'Hard Knocks': Some Dolphins Players Upset Over Criticism

Dolphins tight end Michael Egnew and wide receiver Roberto Wallace responded to the latest episode of HBO "Hard Knocks," on Wednesday, and according to the Miami Herald, they were not pleased about how they were portrayed. In the episode, Miami coaches appeared laughing about Wallace's performance, watching practice tape and calling him "Ankle Weights Wallace." Egnew, meanwhile, bore the brunt of a dress-down from offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, who said he would cut him if he was the general manager.

According to the Herald, both players tried to put on a calm face for the media. Wallace said he couldn't control the criticism from the coaches, but that he would "come out here with a positive attitude every day and leave it at that." Egnew apparently shut his phone off before he could get any texts from friends or family.

Wallace played in only two games in 2011. Egnew is a rookie out of Missouri.

VIDEO: Chad Johnson Released On HBO's 'Hard Knocks'

The episode of 'Hard Knocks' last night on HBO showed what many fans expected, new head coach Joe Philbin sitting down with now-former wide receiver Chad Johnson talking about his impending release.

The scene was just filmed very simply in Philbin's office with the two of them sitting down and talking. Johnson appears to be distraught and disappointed not by just the news but also at the fact that he let one decision damage his career.

It looks as though Johnson is very regretful of what happened that led to this event. He probably will sign somewhere else (perhaps after a few weeks) but it's unfortunate to see what could have been one of the biggest contributors on the Dolphins' offense get cut so quickly. One has to wonder how this will effect the quarterback situation, now that no one in the receiving corps has substantial experience.

Fans may have wondered if the release of wide receiver Chad Johnson would be addressed during the newest episode of Hard Knocks. This episode may also address the quarterback situation, with the injury of David Garrard which could open the door for either Matt Moore or first round draft pick Ryan Tannehill to claim the starting job.
