Dolphins Fans Shouldn't Water Down Expectations For Ryan Tannehill

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel doesn't plan to handle Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill with kid gloves, and one of its writers is cautioning readers from doing so as well. In a Tuesday story, Omar Kelly suggested that Tannehill needed to be held accountable for his poor performance in Miami's 30-10 loss to the Houston Texans.

"Saying Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a poor performance in his season-opening start because the offensive line didn't protect well enough, or because he had a string of three tipped balls that turned into interceptions, or because the receiver aren't getting open all fit into the excuse category," Kelly wrote. "It bothers me that people (fans and media members) want to make excuses for Tannehill's shortcomings, his limitations, his lack of execution."

Tannehill went 20-for-36 with three interceptions in his first NFL start. He finished the game with a quarterback rating of 39.0. He will get a chance to improve on those numbers when the Dolphins host the Oakland Raiders this Sunday.
