Dolphins Home Opener Ratings Worst In At Least A Decade

Hope springs anew in early September as the NFL season kicks off. Every franchise has the same record and every fan base feels like maybe things could bounce right for them this year. But apparently, Miami fans aren't buying what the Dolphins are selling. The Fins had the lowest television rating for an opener in over a decade, and perhaps longer, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

The Dolphins-Texans broadcast drew a 13.5 rating in Miami, well below last season's average and the opener average of the past ten years. There had been modest excitement surrounding the Dolphins, who were featured on HBO's Hard Knocks and were breaking in a new rookie quarterback this season. But the Miami area tuned them out for what is often the most exciting week of the season for many fanbases. Atlanta had the next lowest TV rating for the opener, turning in an 18.5 for their big win over the Chiefs.
