The Miami Marlins fired manager Ozzie Guillen on Tuesday, according to FOX Sports' Chris Tomasson.

Tomasson tweeted the statement from baseball operations president Larry Beinfest on the firing.

"After careful consideration following the disappointment of the 2012 season, we decided to dismiss Ozzie," said Beinfest. "Our managerial search begins immediately and our hope is that a new manager, along with roster improvements, will restore a winning culture."

Guillen managed the Marlins for just one season. He led the newly renamed Miami squad to a 69-93 record and a last-place finish in the National League East. The Marlins finished 29 games out of first place.

The Marlins acquired Guillen, 48, in a trade from the Chicago White Sox at the end of the 2011 season. The White Sox received prospects Jhan Marinez, Ozzie Martinez and Ricardo Ambres in the deal.

In eight seasons in Chicago, Guillen was 678-617 and helped the team win the World Series in 2005.

Guillen played 16 years in the major leagues. He retired after the 2000 season with a career .264 batting average and three All-Star appearances. Guillen earned the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1985 after collecting 134 hits in 150 games with the White Sox.
