Stay connected for news and updates

We are still waiting on a press conference from Ozzie Guillen and the Miami Marlins regarding the comments the manager made about his respect for Fidel Castro, but the Marlins have already acted and made a decision regarding a punishment. The team has suspended Guillen for five games, effective immediately. SB Nation's Amy K. Nelson is in Miami for the proceedings and has a picture of the statement which was just released from the Marlins, it reads:

The Miami Marlins announced today the suspension of manager Ozzie Guillen for five games effective immediately. The Marlins acknowledge the seriousness of the comments attributed to Guillen. The pain and suffering caused by Fidel Castro cannot be minimized especially in a community filled with victims of his dictatorship.

Guillen is scheduled to speak at about 10:30 am on Tuesday at Marlins park in Miami, where protestors are already beginning to assemble.
