San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Wieland has taken matters into his own hands, as his two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning has finally broken the scoring open against the Miami Marlins, giving the Friars a 2-0 edge through five innings.
The score was deadlocked thanks to good pitching from the two starters. Wieland has allowed just three hits in the first five innings while striking out four. Miami starter Ricky Nolasco was solid for four innings before his hiccup while facing Wieland in the fifth. As he has still allowed just three hits while striking out two.
