The Miami Marlins drafted Andrew Heaney, a left-handed pitcher out of Oklahoma State, with the ninth pick in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft.
The Miami Marlins made their pick in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft on Monday night. With the ninth pick in the first round, Miami selected Andrew Heaney, a left-handed pitcher out of Oklahoma State.
Heaney is considered one of the safer pitching prospects in this year's draft. His ceiling is not seen to be as high as some of the other arms available, but he could be among the first pitchers to make it to the big leagues.
John Sickels at SB Nation's Minor League Ball had Heaney drafted in the 15th spot by the Cleveland Indians in his mock draft. He did note that Heaney would be one of several options for the Marlins with the ninth pick.
