2012 MLB Draft Results: Tampa Bay Rays Load Up On College Seniors
The Tampa Bay Rays finished up the 2012 MLB Draft on day three with a slew of draft picks. The final day of the MLB Draft for the Rays was highlighted by second baseman Thomas Coyle from North Carolina. Coyle is a junior in college that bats left and throws right playing in the middle in field for the Tar Heels. Coyle started 67 games for UNC with 62 of those at second base and finished up his junior season with a .311 batting average.
The Rays also picked up catcher Joseph Ward out of Shadow Hills high school in California. Ward is seen as a nice upside catcher because of his strong arm behind the plate, but is said to need to work on his release to quicken it up.
