Braves finish series sweep of Marlins with 6-2 win

In the final series of the season between the two NL East teams, the Marlins went down with little more than a whimper, capped by a 6-2 loss to the Braves on Thursday night. Despite beginning the game with a 2-0 lead, the Marlins gave up four runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the seventh.

Carlos Lee started the scoring for the Marlins with a double in the third inning that brought in Bryan Petersen. One inning later, a Gil Velasquez double drove in Scott Cousins to extend the lead to 2-0.

However, the flood gates opened in the bottom of the fourth, including a fielding error by Petersen that allowed two runs to score. Despite a relatively strong performance by Jacob Turner that included two earned runs through six innings with five strikeouts, the pitcher earned the loss for the Marlins to drop his record to 2-5.

The win for the Braves helped them to stay in the chase for the NL East title, as they are now 3.5 games behind the Nationals following the victory.

The Marlins will next face the Phillies in a three game series at home, beginning with a game starting at 7:10 p.m. ET on Friday night.
