In the fight right before the main even of UFC 149, Hector Lombard took on Tim Boetsch in one of the most anticipated fights of the evening. Unfortunately for fans, the fight wound up being one of the most snooze worthy fights of the entire 2012 calander. Both fighters felt each other out in the first round of the bout, with Lombard stuffing some takedown attempts by Boetsch, but no fight really did anything of note.
The second round went much like the first, with neither fighter really willing to engage the other, which was very surprising for Lombard especially, who's known for his torrent of punches and high energy blitzkrieg style. Lombard was able to hurt Boetsch with a body kick, but outside of that nothing was done.
The third round went much like the first two, with neither fighter really doing much of anything. Lombard was able to stuff some of Boetsch's takedown attempts and get a double leg takedown of his own, but the judges saw it in favor of Boetsch as they scored the fight 29-28 for Boetsch in a surprising split decision.

Hector Lombard was set to take on Michael Bisping at one point for UFC 149, but Bisping was forced to pull out of the bout with an injury. Now, Lombard is hoping that if he can beat Tim Boetsch on Saturday night he can earn a title shot and take on Anderson Silva, who hasn't had anyone outside of Chael Sonnen really challenge him.
"I bumped into Hector Lombard for the first time yesterday in the elevator and I thought someone was playing a practical joke on me," Bisping said at a UFC 149 Q&A session on Friday afternoon. "Who is this little poison dwarf?"
"C'mon seriously? Seriously? This is the guy with all the hype," Bisping joked. "I think he's in the wrong weight class. There's a 125-pound weight class he should be in."
Bisping also noted while Lombard's fight streak is pretty amazing, he hasn't really heard of many of the people Lombard has beaten. Bisping also didn't think Lombard really deserved a title shot and there were other more deserving fighters.

Hector Lombard is on a 25-fight winning streaking heading into his bout with Tim Boetsch at UFC 149, but the entirety of his fight streak has been in promotions such as Bellator, Cage Fighting Championship, and other smaller promotions.
As Mike Chiapetta of MMA Fighting presents, there's two schools of thought on Lombard's winning streak. There is the belief that anyone who can ride a 25-fight winning streak is a legit MMA powerhouse, no matter the opponent. Then there are the ones who question the talent he's faced to rack up all of those wins.
Lombard's last loss was to Gerard Mousasi at Pride Bushido 13 back in November of 2006. Through his fight streak, the Cuban born Lombard has dispatched a handful of UFC veterans, but he knows there are still critics who don't believe in him.
"I feel that after Saturday night, you guys are going to see what I'm all about," Lombard said at Thursday's UFC 149 press conference. "I'm really looking forward to Saturday night to show you guys what I can do in the cage."
Chiapetta lays out what he thinks he's seen from Lombard:
Lombard's opponent caliber has not been top 10 for sure, but he never got trapped by unfamiliar fighter, he never got caught looking past a smaller name. He has also shown himself capable of overwhelming opponents that have already fought where Boetsch is standing. You may not be convinced that Lombard has the goods to survive among the UFC's best, but faced with the level of available opposition outside the UFC, he did what he was supposed to do: he crushed them.

At the UFC 149 press conference, former Bellator Champion Hector Lombard called out Mark Munoz, wanting to fight Munoz after his bout with Tim Boetsch. It was a curious challenge for Lombard to make, who's riding a 25-fight winning streak, but Dana White quickly nipped the idea in the bud.
"He must not have Fuel TV, because Munoz just lost the other night," White said at the UFC 149 press conference on Thursday afternoon. "If he wins on Saturday, I mean, I don't think he'll be fighting Mark Munoz, he'll be fighting one of the guys at the top of that division, not that Munoz isn't, but Munoz has a loss right now."
The 185-pound division in the UFC is a stacked one, but it's also dominated by Anderson Silva, who seems unbeatable at the moment. Lombard has been tearing through opponents in his weight class, so it would seem he's on a collision course with The Spider, but he does have to actually beat Tim Boetsch on Saturday at UFC 149, first.
Boetsch didn't seem to appreciate being seemingly looked over by Lombard.
"He's in for a big surprise on Saturday night," Boetsch said.
