Multiple reports have indicated that the Rockets have traded Chase Budinger to the Timberwolves in exchange for the 18th overall selection in Thursday's draft. Following the trade, the Rockets now have the 14th, 16th and 18th picks, or plenty of ammunition for a potential trade for Dwight Howard. Per Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo! Sports, the Rockets intend to make a very good trade offer for the six-time All-Star.
The Rockets own the 14th, 16th and 18th picks in Thursday's draft. They want to make an offer that Orlando can't refuse for Dwight Howard.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 26, 2012
The Magic have been outspoken about their desire to have Howard be a part of their organization long-term; however, his relationship with the team has been rocky, at best. If given the proper opportunity, it wouldn't be shocking to see new general manager Rob Hennigan send Howard away.

On Thursday, June 21, Rob Hennigan was named the new general manager of the Orlando Magic and spent very little time cleaning house. On Monday, Hennigan fired assistant general manager Dave Twardzik and five members of the Magic scouting department. The house cleaning continued on Tuesday with the firing of director of player development, Adonal Foyle.
Today was my last day with the Orlando Magic as I was let go. Thank you to the people of Orlando for your... fb.me/1K6BqOocA
— Adonal Foyle (@afoyle3131) June 25, 2012
Foyle, a native of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, was hired to the position in September 2010, just one month after he retired from the NBA. As a player, Foyle played 13 seasons in the NBA while spending most of the final three years of his career with the Magic.

Just days before the 2012 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic and new General Manager Rob Hennigan shook up their front office on Sunday, this according to Joshua Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel:
#Orlando #Magic have fired Asst. GM Dave Twardzik and at least 4 scouts, the @orlandosentinel has learned.
— Josh Robbins (@JoshuaBRobbins) June 25, 2012
Dave Twardzik had been with the Magic since 2003 when he served as Director of Player Personnel. Two years later, in 2005, he was promoted to Assistant General Manager under Otis Smith who was fired in May along with Head Coach, Stan Van Gundy.
The five members of the scouting staff who were let go were: Tom Conrad (regional scout), Rudy D'Amico (international scout), Sam Foggin (international scouting coordinator), Bob Staak (pro scout), Greg Stratton (regional scout) and Al Walker (advance scout).

New general manager Rob Hennigan is wasting no time in shaping the Orlando Magic front office into his image. Hennigan made headlines on Sunday when he fired Dave Twardzik who served as assistant general manager under Otis Smith who was terminated by the team in May.
ESPN's Chris Broussard announced via Twitter that Hennigan already has his eyes onTwardzik's replacement:
New Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan targeting Pistons VP of Bball Operations Scott Perry to be his Asst GM, sources say.
— Chris Broussard (@Chris_Broussard) June 25, 2012
Perry is highly regarded around the NBA. He has served under current Pistons GM, Joe Dumars since April of 2008. Despite Detroit's standing as a league bottom feeder, Perry has been tabbed as a future general manager in the NBA. He was once a finalist for the Seattle Supersonics vacancy that ultimately went to Sam Presti.

The Orlando Magic finally have a new general manager, the first step in what will be a massive offseason makeover in Orlando. Magic CEO Alex Martins introduced Rob Hennigan as the team's new GM at a press conference on Thursday, saying all of the things that CEOs say when they make big hires.
"Rob is an astute strategist and evaluator of talent who comes to the Magic family from two championship-level organizations. We feel he is an outstanding fit and the right choice to lead our basketball operations team in achieving our championship goals."
Those two championship-level organizations that Martins refers to are the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder. At the latter organization, he served as the assistant general manager and was instrumental in constructing the current Western Conference champions. With this hiring, he becomes the youngest general manager in the league at 30-years-old.
During the press conference, Hennigan and Martins were predictably asked about Dwight Howard, who has one year remaining on his contract. He's had a change of heart quite a few times about whether or not he plans on staying in Orlando, and both Hennigan and Martins seem open to multiple options.
Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan will meet with Dwight Howard soon. He'll share his vision for the franchise and listen to input from Howard.
— Alex Kennedy (@AlexKennedyNBA) June 21, 2012
Alex Martins: "We would love to have Dwight long-term. The decision is up to Dwight. Dwight has to decide if he wants to be here or not."
— Alex Kennedy (@AlexKennedyNBA) June 21, 2012
Even before Howard is traded or extended, Hennigan and Martins are likely to target a new head coach to replace the recently fired Stan Van Gundy. Exactly who that coach is probably has a lot to do with whether Howard is sticking around or departing for a new team.

The Orlando Magic were reportedly in "advanced talks" with Oklahoma City Thunder assistant general manager Rob Hannigan on Wednesday afternoon. The two sides were able to agree to terms however shortly after, according to a report.
Update: The #Magic and new GM Rob Hennigan have agreed to contract terms, according to a league source.
— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) June 20, 2012
Hannigan has no track record as the man in charge, but he was a part of the process in the building of one of the teams currently in the NBA finals, a team that was predominantly built through the NBA draft. Now that the Magic have hired a general manager however, they can now get Hannigan to work on finding a new head coach and deciding what the team will do with star center Dwight Howard.

The Orlando Magic have been on the search for a new general manager ever since the team parted ways with Otis Smith, and according to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! they might have finally settled on Oklahoma City Thunder assistant general manager Rob Hennigan.
The Orlando Magic are in advanced talks with Oklahoma City assistant GM Rob Hennigan to make him franchise's new GM, league sources tell Y!
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 20, 2012
Hennigan is part of the Thunder management team that virtually built their team in the NBA draft and not through free agency. The team picked the majority of their super stars in James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook in the NBA draft and seldom made big trades. Orlando is a smaller market team like the Thunder, so it makes sense to model their rebuilding process in the same way and with some of the same people.

While the Orland Magic were reported to have met with three general manager candidates earlier this week, they've narrowed their list to two, according to a report. The new GM's first task? Trading Dwight Howard.
As Brian K. Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel tweeted this morning:
Next Magic GM -- it's likely either Jeff Bower or Dennis Lindsey--- must hit ground running. Biggest job: Trading Dwight. He wants out.
— Brian K. Schmitz (@MagicInsider) June 15, 2012
Bower is the former general manager of the New Orleans Hornets (two stints: 2002-2003 and 2005-2010). Most notably, he grabbed Chris Paul with the No. 3 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He also coached the Hornets for the majority of the 2009-10 season after firing Byron Scott.
Lindsey has been the vice president and assistant general manager of the San Antonio Spurs since 2007. Before San Antonio, he was the vice president of basketball operations/player personnel with the Houston Rockets.

The field has been narrowed down for three potential candidates for the vacant Orlando Magic general manager position, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Oklahoma City Thunder assistant GM Rob Hennigan, San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey and former New Orleans Hornets GM Jeff Bower will all meet with Magic ownership over the next few days. The Magic hope to have a GM in place within about 10 days of the NBA Draft on June 28.
Hennigan, in his fourth year with the Thunder, began his career as an intern with the Spurs. He was promoted to assistant GM/player personnel two years ago.
Lindsey has been the assistant GM in San Antonio for five years. He had previously worked for 11 seasons with the Houston Rockets. Lindsey has been a popular target for GM jobs, having pulled out of consideration for GM positions with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors.
Bower finished third place in executive of the year voting in 2008. That year, the Hornets won 59 games and pushed the Spurs to seven games in the Western Conference semifinals. He has a reputation of being one of the most resourceful GMs in the NBA, having dealt with small payrolls and getting good results while with the Hornets.

The rumors that Phil Jackson could be getting a job in the Orlando Magic front office appear to be fizzling out. The current proposal would have Jackson in a front office position, possibly a minority owner, but he wouldn't be there full time.
According to a report by Joshua Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, there are members of the current front office would not be keen with handing control of basketball operations to someone not in Orlando all the time.
In their search to replace Otis Smith, the Magic plan to hire someone who will be in Orlando on a full-time basis as well as someone who has experience working at the highest levels of a basketball operations department.
The current plan would have had Jackson in the front office while Indiana Pacers assistant and former Los Angeles Lakers Assistant Bryan Shaw would take over as head coach and Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen would become the top assistant.

Phil Jackson could still be hired by the Orlando Magic, according to an SI.com article by Sam Amick. In that article, Amick says that there is a revised version of a proposal that could have the 11-time championship coach take the job as a head personnel man in Orlando's front office. However, not everyone in the Magic organization believes this is a good idea.
Yet fascinating as the idea might be, Magic CEO Alex Martins appears to be against the idea of having an absentee leader -- no matter how many rings he has.
Given what the plan is, according to one source in the Magic organization, it could be understandable why Martins would be against the idea of bringing Jackson on board.
In the plan, Jackson -- according to one of the sources -- would work in Orlando one week out of every month and agree to make six community appearances every month as well.
It still remains to be seen what effect this will have on the Magic's coaching search, but the plan could also involve having Jackson as a minority owner. This proposal would also have current Indiana Pacers assistant and former Los Angeles Lakers assistant Brian Shaw as the head coach with Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen as the top assistant.

The Orlando Magic are moving full speed ahead in trying to find a new general manager. According to a tweet by CBSSports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger, Magic CEO Alex Martins is interviewing former New Orleans Hornets general manager Jeff Bower.
Former Hornets GM Jeff Bower is interviewing today with CEO Alex Martins for the #Magic GM position.
— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) May 31, 2012
Bower was the general manager of the Hornets from 2005 to 2010. During that time he instrumented several trades and signings that helped the Hornets rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. The Hornets wound up with players like Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler, Peja Stojakovic and David West on their roster, making the playoffs in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, winning a division title in the former season.

The Orlando Magic are close to naming a new general manager, and a decision is likely to be made before the end of the week, according to a report from MagicBasketballOnline.com's Brian Serra. The new GM will also be tasked with making a decision on Dwight Howard's future with the club, says Serra.
Serra writes:
A source close to the decision making process within the Orlando Magic organization has informed me that the team is close, and likely to name their new General Manager by the end of the week. Many names have surfaced as potential candidates with many of them set to be interviewed in the next few days. Jeff Bower, Spurs Assistant GM Dennis Lindsey, Thunder Assistant GM Rob Hennigan, Kevin Pritchard, Mitch Kupchak and Donnie Walsh have all been rumored to be potential candidates.

The Orlando Magic continue their search for a new General Manager to replace the recently fired Otis Smith. The initial reports centered around a dalliance with Shaquille O'Neal, but any rumors of the former Magic center taking a front office position were quickly put to rest. Now a list of more serious candidates is emerging, and Ken Berger of CBS reports that former Portland Trail Blazers' GM Kevin Pritchard has been contacted by the Magic. Via @KBergCBS:
Add another name to the #Magic's list of GM candidates. Orlando has reached out to Pacers executive Kevin Pritchard, league source says.
— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) May 29, 2012
Pritchard was the General Manager in Portland from 2007 to 2010, when he was unceremoniously pushed out the door the week of the Draft. He spent last season with the Pacers, and is often cited as a top candidate for vacant GM positions.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarski, the Orlando Magic search for a general manager is looking towards candidates from the teams set to face off in the Western Conference Finals.
Thunder vice president and assistant general manager Troy Weaver and Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey have been targeted, and Orlando has been granted permission to talk with Weaver, sources said. The Spurs' OK of permission for Lindsey is imminent, sources said.
Orlando has also been granted permission to speak with Oklahoma City's assistant GM Rob Hennigan, who came into the league with the Spurs.
Another candidate mentioned is Jeff Bower, the former general manager for New Orleans. Previous reports had suggested Shaq was a possibility, but Shaq himself denied that was the case. Orlando is looking for a GM to handle the search for a new head coach, after the team fired Stan Van Gundy last Monday.

So much for the idea that Shaquille O'Neal was going to come back to Orlando to be the Magic's GM, replacing Otis Smith. The former Magic superstar published a press release today to say that he has no intentions of leaving his current gig with TNT's NBA coverage.
When I first heard about the vacancy for the Orlando Magic general manager position, I was clearly intrigued. I was drafted by the Magic, I have a great love for the franchise, and I have made the city of Orlando my home. Additionally, I have great admiration and respect for the DeVos family. However, this is not a job I have an interest in pursuing. I feel very fortunate to be with TNT and to have the best job in sports. I look forward to many more years with Charles, Kenny and E.J. I wish the best for the Magic and I am confident that they will select a great GM and coach
While this is a disappointment, given the poor track record of former players who became general managers it may not be the worst thing in the world that Shaq is deciding to stay in front of the cameras rather than go to the front office of the Orlando Magic.
