NCAA Baseball Tournament 2012 Bracket Preview: Miami, UCF Headline Miami Regional

The Miami regional will carry a distinctly Florida flavor. The group of four is not only headlined by the No. 1 seed Miami Hurricans (36-21), who are hosting the regional at Alex Rodriguez Field in Coral Gables, Fla., but also features the UCF Knights (43-15), who secured a berth in the postseason for the second straight season. Miami (Fl.) will open against Stony Brook (46-11), while the Knights will face Missouri State (39-20).

All regional play in the NCAA Baseball Tournament is double elimination, with games scheduled to begin on Friday and extend through June 3 or 4, depending on how the games play out. All games in Coral Gables will be available on ESPN3. The winner of the Miami regional will take on the winner of the Baton Rouge regional next week. The Florida State Seminoles come into the 2012 NCAA Tournament with a 43-15 record, which was good enough for the No. 3 overall seed. They'll be hosting the Tallahassee regional, which includes No. 2 Mississippi State (39-22), No. 3 Samford (39-21) and No. 4 UAB (32-38). All three of the visiting squads won their conference tournaments, earning automatic bids into the postseason.

All regional play in the NCAA tournament is double elimination, with games beginning on Friday, June 1, and extending through June 3 or 4, depending on how the games play out. All games in Tallahassee will be available on ESPN 3. The winner of the Tallahassee regional will take on the winner of the Palo Alto regional next week. After finishing the regular season with a 42-18 record, the Florida Gators come into the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 overall seed. The Gators will be hosting the Gainesville regional, which also contains No. 2 Georgia Tech (36-24), No. 3 College of Charleston (37-20) and No. 4 Bethune-Cookman (34-25).

Play in the Gainesville regional kicks off on Friday, June 1, and will extend through either June 3 or 4, depending on how the games play out. All regional play in the NCAA tournament is double elimination. The winner of the Gainesville regional will play the Raleigh regional winner in Super Regional play next weekend. College World Series 2012: Three Florida Schools Host Regional Games

The regionals were announced for the 2012 College World Series on Monday. Three Florida schools knew that they would be hosting action, but now the teams know where they will be playing.

The Florida Gators have the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament and will host the Gainesville Regional. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Charleston Cougars and Bethune-Cookman Wildcats are the other teams in the regional in seeds two through four respectively.

The Florida State Seminoles have the overall No. 3 seed in the tournament after losing three games in the ACC tournament. They will still host the Tallahassee Regional in the College World Series. The Mississippi State Bulldogs, Samford Bulldogs and the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers round out the other three seeds in that regional.

The Miami Hurricanes are the last team that will be hosting a regional from the state of Florida, hosting the Coral Gables regional. The Hurricanes will host the Central Florida Knights, the Missouri State Bears and the Stony Brook Seawolves.

NCAA Baseball Regionals: Florida, FSU, Miami All Hosting

The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship rolls on, featuring a particularly heavy contingent from Florida. Once again, Florida, Florida State and Miami will all host regionals in the 66th annual tournament. Regional play kicks off on June 1.

Florida State is hosting a regional for the 29th time this season, the mos for any school. Miami hosts their 24th regional, the second most on the list. The 2012 regional will be the 11th for Florida. Miami is the only one of the three that did not host a regional last year. All three teams from those schools will also be playing in the regional round on their home field.

There are 16 total regional sites. Each regional features four teams playing in a double-elimination format. Regional rounds run from June 1 through June 4. Regional pairings and assignments will be announced at Noon Eastern on Monday, May 28. Super regional play follows the regional round of the tournament.

2012 Big East Baseball Tournament: St. John's Ends South Florida's Cinderella Run In Championship

The USF Bulls' first ever appearance in the Big East Tournament Baseball Championship ended on a sour note as the St. John's Red Storm pulled out a 7-3 victory Sunday afternoon, holding the Bulls to just four hits all afternoon.

Although St. John's scored first in the bottom of the second, the Bulls responded with three runs in the top of the third, thanks to an RBI single by Luis Llerena and two runs scoring on an error.

St. John's would cut the score to 3-2 in the fourth, and then took control in the late innings, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings and one insurance run in the eighth.

Andrew Barbosa took the loss for the Bulls, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing four runs on six hits. Matt Carisiti was solid on the hill for the Red Storm, allowing two earned runs in 6.2 innings on just four hits while striking out four.

St. John's is guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Tournament, however, USF will have to wait until the selections are made to discover their post-season fate.

Big East Baseball Tournament 2012 Schedule: USF Bulls Face St. John's Red Storm For Big East Championship

The USF Bulls will face the St. John's Red Storm for the 2012 Big East Baseball Championship on Sunday, after winning twice on Saturday to advance to the Championship game. The Bulls defeated the UConn Huskies in both Saturday games.

The Bulls entered the tournament as the fourth seed, and will face number two seed St. John's, who are playing in their third straight conference final. USF lost their first game in the tournament, but were able to bounce back and win the next four. Saturday saw dominant pitching performances from the Bulls, with a complete game shutout by senior Derrick Stutlz in the first game and Nick Gonazles allowing only one run on four hits through six innings in game two.

St. Johns and USF have met 21 times dating back to 2006, with the Red Storm leading the series 12-9, including taking two of three in the 2012 regular season. The Bulls are capable of surpassing past results when the moment calls for it, though: UConn had a 5-0 in conference tournament play against the Bulls before Saturday.

2012 ACC Baseball Tournament: Miami And Georgia Tech Set To Face In Title Game

For Miami, the tiebreaker worked. The Hurricanes were even with North Carolina atop Pool B of the ACC Baseball Tournament, but as the result of their 5-3 win over the Tar Heels on Thursday, they'll face No. 8-seeded Georgia Tech in the conference title game on Sunday afternoon at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C. It's their first trip to the ACC championship game in four years.

North Carolina managed to beat N.C. State on Saturday but was unable to slide past the 'Canes in the standings.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets, who represent Pool A, finished 3-0 in round-robin play, including a 17-5 win over top-seeded Florida State and a 5-1 victory against Clemson.

On Sunday, sophomore right-hander Javi Salas will take the hill for Miami, while Georgia Tech will go with freshman Josh Heddinger. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. EST and will be televised on ESPN2.
