2012 College World Series: Pairings Announced For Florida, Florida State

The 2012 College World Series field is almost set, and with six of the eight spots already filled out a partial schedule has been released. The 66th annual College World Series begins on June 15-26 with Florida making their third straight appearance to Omaha. While this is Florida State's third appearance in the past five years, the last two appearances were in 2008 and 2010.

No. 3 seeded Florida St. Seminoles will take on the Arizona Wildcats out of the Pac-12 on Friday June 15 at 9 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and online at ESPN3.

While the No. 1 seeded Florida Gators began play on Saturday June 16 at 9 p.m. ET against No. 8 seeded South Carolina Gamecocks, this game will be on ESPN as well as on ESPN3.

College World Series Field To Be Finalized Today

With the Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles among the five teams already in the field for the 2012 College World Series, the college baseball world awaits to see who will join them in Omaha, Nebraska.

Today's slate of games start at 4:00 PM in Eugene, Oregon, as the 5th seeded Oregon Ducks and Kent State Golden Flashes compete in a winner take all Game 3. Each team won each game by one run each, with Kent State winning Game 1 7-6 and Oregon winning Game 2 3-2.

In Columbia, South Carolina, South Carolina leads the Oklahoma Sooners 1-0 in their three game set, with first pitch slated for 4:05 PM. The Gamecocks won the opener 5-0 thanks to Michael Roth and Tyler Webb's six-hit shutout. If the Sooners are able to force Game 3 today, first pitch is tentatively slated for 7:05 PM.

The nightcap is Waco, Texas, where Baylor and Arkansas are tied at a game a piece. The Bears won Game 1 8-1, while the Razorbacks scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th to win 5-4 and force today's Game 3. Today's game is slated to start at 7:05 PM.

The Florida State Seminoles advanced to the 2012 College World Series for the 21st time in program history after crushing the Stanford Cardinal by a final score of 18-7. In their two games of the Tallahassee Regional, Florida State scored a combined 35 runs.

They defeated Stanford on Saturday night in the first game of the Super Regional by a final score of 17-1.

The Cardinal were absolutely anemic offensively as they'd gone over ten innings without scoring until bottom of the third in Game 2 when they finally were able to put a run on the board. They'd scored just three runs in the first 15 innings of the Tallahassee Super Regional.

Stanford had plenty of chances at the plate as they had 18 hits in the ball game and were playing with the bases loaded on a number of occasions, but they couldn't come away with that key hit as the Seminole defense shut them down at every turn.

Gage Smith gets credited with the win on the mound for Florida State while leadoff hitter Sherman Johnson led the Seminoles on offense with five RBI's in the game.

NCAA Super Regionals 2012, Florida Vs. N.C. State: Gators Advance To CWS With Wild 9-8 Win

Braving long rain delays, and comeback after comeback by the N.C. State Wolfpack, the Florida Gators were finally able to clinch a trip to the College World Series with a 9-8 win in 10 innings.

With the score 0-0 in the top of the third, rain moved into Gainesville, causing a rain delay of nearly three hours. After the skys cleared, N.C. State opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Brett Austin and Matt Bergquist came through with a pair of doubles.

Florida appeared to have broken the game open with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by clutch hitting and an error by N.C. State leading to the fourth run.

The Wolfpack would nod the game up with two in the bottom half of the fourth and then one more in the fifth. What followed in innings eighth through 10 could be considered one of the wildest stretches in some time. With N.C. State up 5-4 in the top of the eighth, Florida took the lead back with a two-run inning highlighted with a Brian Johnson home run.

N.C. State would answer with one in the bottom of the eighth when Jake Fincher homered to make the score 6-6. Florida appeared to be in the driver's seat yet again, going up 7-6 in the ninth, however relief pitcher Austin Maddox could not shut the door in the bottom half. Danny Canella's RBI single tied the game at 7-7 and sent it to extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, Florida scored two runs on a Daniel Pigot solo home run and then a Josh Tobias RBI single. N.C. State did their best to rally yet again, putting up one run in the bottom of the 10th and putting the tying run in scoring position, but Keenan Kish was finally able to slam the door on the Wolfpack, ensuring that the Gators would be heading to Omaha.

The second game to be played between the Florida State Seminoles and Stanford Cardinal in the Tallahassee Super Regional was postponed Saturday night due to weather, and will instead be played Sunday evening at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee.

The Seminoles manhandled the Cardinal 17-1 in the first game of the best-of-three series on Friday night. A Florida State win on Sunday will send the Seminoles to Omaha and the 2012 College World Series. A loss would force a winner-take-all matchup with Stanford on Monday, with first pitch yet to be determined.

The game two, instead, is slated to begin tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. EST at Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee.

The Seminoles won the first game of the double-elimination series, 17-1 on Friday night after Devon Travis drove in six runs for Florida State. A win tomorrow would send FSU to the College World Series, whereas a loss will push the series even further back to Monday. First pitch for Monday is TBA.

Opening the best-of-three NCAA Gainesville Super Regional on Saturday afternoon at McKethan Stadium, junior starting pitcher Hudson Randall got the No. 1 Florida Gators right on track. The Atlanta native tossed seven shutout innings and the Gators grabbed a 7-1 win over No. 11 N.C. State. Randall has now given up two runs or less in 11 of his 15 starts this season, including his last five outings.

At the plate, junior catcher Mike Zunino gave the Gators a lift, as well. Zunino went two for four at the plate, driving in three runs, along with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The start of contest, which was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. EST, was delayed for nearly three hours over the course of the whole game. Game two of the series is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. and be televised nationally on ESPNU. A win would send Florida to the College World Series for the third consecutive year

The Florida State Seminoles hosted the Stanford Cardinal in the Tallahassee Super Regional and destroyed them in Game 1 of the double-elimination format on Friday night by a final score of 17-1.

Devon Travis led the way for the 'Noles with six RBI's in the ballgame while Brandon Leibrandt was credited with the win as he pitched six complete innings while giving up six hits and just one earned run in the ball game while striking out four Stanford batters.

Florida State dominated the game in the middle innings by score seven runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth and seventh to put things out of reach.

Stanford will look to bounce back from the embarrassing loss and force a third and deciding game on Sunday.
