B.J. Daniels Injury Update: USF Quarterback's Status For Louisville In Question, So Team Prepares Bobby Eveld

The injury which forced South Florida Bulls quarterback B.J. Daniels to leave Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Miami Hurricanes is an "AC joint bruise," coach Skip Holtz told reporters Monday. Though it's still possible Daniels could play Saturday at home against the Louisville Cardinals, the team is preparing backup signal-caller Bobby Eveld for the game just in case.

Daniels injured his shoulder on a running play in the second quarter and did not return. Without him, the Bulls' offense ground to a halt. Evelt completed 5-of-9 passes for just 36 yards in relief of Daniels, but those numbers only tell part of the story. As Jamie DeVriend notes, USF gained just 75 yards of offense after Daniels' injury, as the absence of a dual-threat quarterback under center made the Bulls' offense less dynamic and more predictable.

Now in his junior season, Daniels has completed 60.4 percent of his passes, with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. To that he's added 122 caries for 578 yards and five scores on the ground.

In contrast, Eveld has completed just 53.1 percent of his attempts this season, with no touchdowns and three interceptions.
