According to John Clayton from ESPN, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers nearly fired Raheem Morris this week, but they don't have a deep enough coaching staff to do so.

Mark Dominik Holds Raheem Morris's Hand During Games, According To Raheem Morris

Sbtbavatar_medium

I can't even believe Raheem said all this. From the St. Petersburg Times, when he was asked on Tuesday why general manager Mark Dominik was seen wearing a headset in the press box during Saturday night's Bucs-Cowboys game:

"But he also handles penalties for me. When we have possible challenges and things of that nature, he goes up, he's able to look at them. Usually, I'm dog-cussing him. 'What does it look like.' And he's like, "Hold, hold, hold' and usually gives me great information whether we want to challenge it. Even if it's a play we know we may not get back, it's just too important of a play, whatever the deal is. Just like the big Regis Benn touchdown against the Indianapolis Colts. Way too big of a play not to challenge it. Too close. Could have inconclusive evidence. "Just try it, Rah.' Boom, let's do it. All those things we do together.''

That was in addition to saying that Dominik helps him with injuries on the opposing team. Raheem Morris is an NFL head coach, and instead of delegating certain tasks to assistants so he can be freed up for the really important things, his boss is still helping him do his job after three years. Are you kidding me???

I have no idea what motivated Raheem to answer that question honestly. Even a lie would have been better, something like "he's just listening in for his own information." Either Raheem makes himself look like an idiot who can't manage the game on his own, or he's trying to throw Dominik under the bus. Both of which would be absolutely insane.

Oh, but there's more. Then someone asked him if he knows of other general managers who wear headsets.

"I don't think so,' Morris said. "(Falcons' GM) Thomas Dimitroff wears one and a lot of the guys I see wear the headsets. I think I saw Jerry Jones with a headset on. I think people involved in football that have football minds, they're all in there. He has a headset up there and he's able to talk to me about those sort of things. He's part of our booth protocol, so to speak. I know Bruce Allen wore one.''

First, let's take a minute to admire the phrase "people involved in football that have football minds." That's remarkable. Second, when does Raheem have time to scout the other team's coaching box to figure out who's wearing a headset and who isn't? And third, Jerry Jones sits in the owner's box, not the coaching box. He's on camera at least 10 times a week during Cowboys games and he's never, ever wearing a headset. (I would have loved to see what happened if Jerry started second-guessing Bill Parcells in his headset when he was coaching in Dallas.)

Just unbelievable. This makes Jim Mora, Jr. and his phone-a-friend lifeline during a Bucs-Falcons overtime game back in 2005 pale in comparison. All you can do is laugh... right?

Raheem Morris Coaching Future: Buccaneers Coach Focused On Football

Raheem Morris' future with the Buccaneers organization is shaky at best, but according to Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times, Morris isn't concerned with his future, and is focused instead on football.

"I know there's a cloud outside the organization,'' Morris said. "But when you come into this building, there's a bunch of rays of sunshine. You see these guys and how they react to each other and how they play. You guys make it gloomy and doomy for us, but we do our best to keep rain away"

Morris also understands why the heat has come down on him and the coaching staff following their breakout year last year and their disappointing season this year.

It's pretty much the same staff. We went out there and won 10 games. Everybody loved us. This year, we came out and we're not having the same success, we're not as good. so obviously, it starts with the coaches, it goes to players and then it goes to management. That's how it works in this business. It's something we grew up doing, we trained that way. For those who are given a lot, a lot is expected. It's just the nature of the beast we live in.''

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coach Raheem Morris Earns Endorsement From Gerald McCoy

Evan_dunlap_medium

Rumors that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers almost fired coach Raheem Morris following their 41-14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars began circulating Wednesday night, continuing a string of bad news for the three-year coaching veteran. An anonymous Buccaneer criticized Morris for his lack of leadership in a Tuesday report from Yahoo1 Sports, and fans of the team are beginning to question his credentials. Tampa Bay has lost seven straight games to fall to 4-9, and into a tie with the Carolina Panthers for last place in the NFC South.

But defensive tackle Gerald McCoy stood up for his coach. Thursday afternoon, McCoy sent the following Twitter message to his 22,000-plus followers:

Raheem Morris Almost Fired By Buccaneers After Blowout Loss

There has been much debate among Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans on if head coach Raheem Morris should be fired for the team's performance this season. The common consensus appears to be a hearty "Yes." The Buccaneers have taken steps backwards this season and players are now speaking up against him, so it increasingly seems like a matter of when Morris will get canned...not if.

According to John Clayton, Bucs fans may have to wait until the end of the season. He reported on ESPN last night that the Buccaneers would have fired Morris after last weekend's blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the Buccaneers have too few coaches on their staff to replace him adequately in-season.

There have been no further reports corroborating this rumor, but as Sander at Bucs Nation points out, it makes sense:

Not only would they have to replace Raheem Morris as head coach, they would need to find a defensive coordinator, and replacements for the two promoted coaches. That's a lot of turnover, and the Bucs don't even really have a viable candidate as interim head coach.

So for better or worse, Buccaneers fans are likely stuck with Morris for the remainder of the season. If things don't improve dramatically by then, though, it seems a foregone conclusion that Morris will be on his way out.

If Morris is fired, all three Florida football teams will have open head coach vacancies. The Jaguars fired Jack Del Rio a few weeks ago when they announced Shahid Khah was purchasing the team, and the Dolphins fired Tony Sparano this past Monday. All three clubs have had losing seasons in 2011.

Raheem Morris Criticized By Anonymous Buccaneer; Future In Tampa Bay Unclear

10-10_acadia_044_medium

It has been a rough season for Raheem Morris. He started off the year as one of the most loved coaches in the Tampa Bay area, but the Buccaneers' atrocious play this season has caused him to fall out of favor...and fast. There have been grumblings about his play calling since the beginning of the season, but with Tampa Bay's collapse in recent weeks, many fans have started to call for his head.

What's more, players within the organization are now speaking up with criticisms of Morris. According to a report from Jason Cole at Yahoo Sports, Morris talked GM Mark Dominik out of releasing Aquib Talib after his arrest last year, and that message -- talent is more important than discipline -- has resonated with the players:
