Buccaneers vs. Saints score: Tampa Bay jumps out to 14-7 1st-quarter lead over New Orleans

Even though they're decked out in their throwback creamsickle orange uniforms, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn't play anything like the 1976 Bucs in the first quarter against the New Orleans Saints, jumping out to an early 14-7 lead.

The Bucs got a big boost early on when Ronde Barber picked off Drew Brees on the Saints' first series of the day, setting up a short field for Josh Freeman and the offense.

On Tampa's first play after the interception, Freeman found Tiquan Underwood for a 13-yard score, the first touchdown of Underwood's four-year career.

After forcing the Saints to go three-and-out on the next series and escaping a near-interception by Roman Harper, who almost picked off an overthrow by Freeman, rookie running back Doug Martin extended the Bucs' lead with a 36-yard touchdown run.

The 14-0 lead wouldn't hold for long, though. The Saints finally found their feet late in the first quarter with Brees finding Devery Henderson for a 40-yard catch-and-run and then connecting with Marques Colston for a 17-yard touchdown. The score cut the Bucs' lead in half heading to the second quarter.
