Ahmad Black will play for Bucs despite marijuana charge

Matt Stamey-US PRESSWIRE

Tampa Bay will not hold out the second-year safety from any games, although he may still face punishment from the league office due to violating the personal-conduct policy.

In a press conference with reporters on Wednesday, Bucs coach Greg Schiano said that he was disappointed by S Ahmad Black's recent marijuana charge, but it would not affect Black's playing time against the Chargers this week (courtesy of the Tampa Bay Times):

He had "candid conversations" with Black and addressed the team about recent off-the-field issues that have made headlines. "Rest assured, it's been addressed," Schiano said.

Black was cited, but not arrested, for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana on Oct. 30. It is a first-degree misdemeanor charge in Florida and Black's arraignment will be held on Dec. 3.

A second-year safety out of Florida, the 5'9 185 Black has been an instrumental part of Tampa Bay's nickel and dime coverage packages this season, racking up 10 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 2 INT's in 2012.

But while Schiano said that any discipline for the former fifth-round pick would be handled internally, there's still a chance that Roger Goodell's office eventually weighs in once Black's legal proceedings have run their course.
