The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have already had their first encounters with the rookies they've picked, and they are working on getting them under contract. The most recent signing is of sixth round pick and former West Virginia cornerback Keith Tandy.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached a four-year agreement in principle with sixth-round cornerback Keith Tandy, per a league source.
— Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) May 10, 2012
For a little perspective on what kind of prospect Tandy could be for the Buccaneers, we turn to our West Virginia blog the Smoking Musket.
Things didn't go well early, and Keith had to earn his way back by proving himself on the field. Obviously, he took full advantage of his opportunity. While at West Virginia he had 13 interceptions and 24 pass breakups. Most of them coming in his last two years. He has a nose for the football and he gets in positions to make plays. He's not afraid to take on ball carriers as evidenced by his 188 tackles.

The 2012 NFL Draft is finally in the books, but we will still be analyzing the results for the next few years, I'm sure. Mel Kiper just came out with a new article at ESPN where he notes some players from the Draft that he believes could be impact players early in their NFL careers. The Buccaneers' late first rounder Doug Martin made the cut.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Martin finishes 2012 with more carries than LeGarrette Blount. He's a really hard worker and will come into camp ready to compete. But more than that, he's just a really complete back. He'll be able to get wide more than Blount, and you want him on the field because he's such a good pass-catcher, an area where Blount really struggles. David Wilson will also get his carries for the New York Giants.
Running back is one of the positions that it is easiest to have early success at in the NFL, so it would not surprise me if Martin was very good in his first year. It also helps that he has Blount to help share the load, so he won't feel too much pressure as the feature back. If he starts right away, he could be very effective.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received high marks from Sports Illustrated with regard to what they were able to do in the NFL Draft. SI's grades fall right in line with the general consensus that Tampa improved their team significantly with the players they chose this year, starting with Alabama Crimson Tide safety standout, Mark Barron.
Here is what Sports Illustrated had to say about what the Bucs were able to do:
Mark Barron (7) fills a huge need at safety, but you can understand those questioning why Tampa Bay didn’t just stay put and take Claiborne. Running back Doug Martin (31) and LB Lavonte David (58) will help immediately, and CB Keith Tandy (174) was a bit of a steal at a position that the Bucs need help. Grade: A-minus
The SportingNews categorized Tampa Bay as 'playoff hopefuls' because of their returning players and the players they picked up via the draft.

The Miami Dolphins have received mixed reviews on their 2012 NFL Draft, and now Sports Illustrated has voiced their opinions with their draft grades.
The Dolphins are felt by many to be taking a big chance on first-round selection Ryan Tannehill at quarterback, a move SI isn't exactly crazy about when giving the 'Fins a "B-" grade for their draft.
This all depends on how much you believe in Ryan Tannehill. I'm on the fence, and especially suspect of his value at No. 8. Jonathan Martin has work to do to start at right tackle, but he was a bargain at 42. The wild card here is TE Michael Egnew (78), who will have to play a key role, since Miami more or less neglected the receiver spot. Grade: B-minus
Of course, if Tannehill ends up being a great quarterback for the Dolphins, it will sway their draft very much in their favor.

The 2012 NFL Draft continues to be dissected by draft experts everywhere, and SB Nation is no exception. The praise continues to come in for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as in SB Nation's latest grades the Bucs received a "B+" grade for their picks.
Tampa Bay was praised for their ability to make the most of their trade back in the order, while addressing a wide variety of their needs.
The Bucs were big spenders in free agency. Trading back into the first round to draft Doug Martinsurprised some. Their offense needed a legitimate rushing threat though, and he's a well-rounded player. He also helps as a pass blocker. Mark Barron will also be contributing in year one. He is very talented and better in coverage than most acknowledge.
They drafted Keith Tandy, a cornerback with a nice combination of size and speed, in the sixth round. Is that enough to back up the Ronde Barber and Aqib Talib pairing?
This of course will all play out in the coming years, but the consensus opinion should have Bucs fans excited.

While draft gurus from all over dissect the 2012 NFL Draft, Pete Prisco of CBS Sports has released his draft grades Sunday morning, and isn't as impressed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers draft as others have.
While the usually tough grader Mel Kiper of ESPN gave the Bucs an "A", Prisco decided on giving Tampa Bay a "B" for their draft. Here is his breakdown.
Best pick: They landed a future Pro Bowl player in second-round linebacker Lavonte David. They have their next Derrick Brooks.
Questionable move: Trading out of their spot in the first round to pass on Morris Claiborne and take safety Mark Barron. Corner is a much more valuable position than safety.
Third-day gem: Linebacker Najee Goode is a run-thumper from West Virginia who is worth a look in the fifth round. He plays the run well. Has played inside and outside.
Analysis: The Bucs landed three starters with their first three picks in Barron, running back Doug Martin (who I really like) and David. That's a nice bounty. I don't know if Barron is quite the player some think he will be, but Tampa Bay had a big-time need there.
Grade: B
Only time will tell on just how great of a draft this was for the Bucs, although the consensus feedback is positive.

The 2012 NFL Draft officially came to a close on Saturday evening, with teams using three days and seven rounds to bolster their squads for the upcoming season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added seven players in the draft, most notably the best safety available and the second-best running back in the draft, both in the first round.
Now comes the time for instant (over)analysis by pundits. First up to bat, ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper, who gave Tampa Bay the rare overall grade of "A" for this year's draft.
Summary: In terms of adding impactful talent, and working the board, it's hard to do any better than Tampa Bay did in the first two rounds. The Bucs got the best safety in the draft after moving down, then swooped in at No. 31 to get the most complete running back not named Trent Richardson. Doug Martin is a good complement to LeGarrette Blount, and has great hands. Lavonte David is an undersized tackling machine who could be a dynamic weakside linebacker; he was on my Big Board. They didn't get to add a cornerback until Keith Tandy at No. 174, but I'm not sure any other team added as much early positive impact.
After a woeful campaign last season, the Buccaneers need all they help they can get. Hopefully, this weekend set a foundation for recovery for the franchise.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up the 2012 draft by adding another skill position player on the offensive side of the ball at the end of Round 7. Northwestern tight end Drake Dunsmore was selected by the Bucs No. 233 overall, and No. 26 in the 7th round. Dunsmore is a solid, if not spectacular, tight end prospect who lacked the athleticism to be a top flight prospect. He's a reliable and consistent pass-catcher and route-runner, however, and we've seen tight end prospects come from deep in the draft on several occasions in recent years. He's a smaller tight end who can be used in short-yarage situations and may challenge for a spot in the rotation.

With the No. 212 pick overall, and 5th in Round 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Michael Smith, a running back from Utah State. Smith is the second running back selected by the Bucs, who chose Boise State running back Doug Martin way back in the Round 2. He's an odd prospect, possessing great speed and talent but he struggled to get a ton of reps on his own team, which played in the mid-major WAC. He's a superior athlete, however, who can blow through the holes with great burst.
After selecting two straight West Virginia players on the defensive side of the ball, Schiano and company went back to the offensive side of the ball with another skill position player. The Buccaneers have one more selection in the 7th round, pick No. 233 overall that they received from the Houston Texans.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected 5-foot-10, 200 pound cornerback Keith Tandy from West Virginia with the fourth pick in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. It is the second consecutive Mountaineers player taken by the Bucs, who chose Tandy's teammate, linebacker Najee Goode, with the fifth pick of the fifth round.
Tandy was an All-Big East corner at West Virginia, and despite having what scout's consider average size and speed, is an aggressive ballhawk who often garnered interceptions after tipping passes.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have used the fifth pick in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft on West Virginia linebacker Najee Goode. Goode played both inside and outside linebacker for the Mountaineers, and is considered by many scouts to be a tweener at the position. Tampa Bay will need to decide how to utilize Goode at the next level, but he does have 3-4 and 4-3 base defense versatility, making him a possible gem this late in the draft.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Lavonte David with the No. 58 pick after trading up ten spots from the top of the 3rd round into the end of the 2nd round. David is a 6'1, 220 pound linebacker out of Nebraska. He was one of the top senior linebackers in the country last year and one of the best in his class for the 2012 Draft. He is super fast but a little undersized at the outside linebacker position.
While the Buccaneers received Houston's 2nd round pick at No. 58 and their 7th round pick at No. 233, they shipped out their 3rd rounder ten spots later at No. 68 along with their 4th round pick, the No. 126 pick.
It was the Buccaneers first selection of the evening, after being active on the trade market in the 1st Round and then moving back in the 2nd round. They're scheduled to be done for the night but at the rate they're trading, they could still make noise in Round 3.

The Buccaneers made two trades in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, first trading back a couple of spots to take Mark Barron then coming back into the tail end of the first round to take running back Doug Martin. The guys at SB Nation came out with their NFL Draft Grades, and they seem to enjoy the picks the Bucs made giving them a a solid "B" for their selections.
Mark Barron was flying up draft boards before the draft so the Bucs had to take him at No. 7 to make sure they got who they wanted. Trading back caused them to miss out on Morris Claiborne, but the extra picks plus Barron make the move worth it. It also allowed them to move back into the first round for Doug Martin.
The Buccaneers chose two prospects who could come in and start immediately, and Doug Martin has flown a little bit under the radar because he plays at Boise St. Barron is the best safety in this class and the Bucs needed help at that position. Check out the video below for more on the Buccaneers selection from SB Nation on Youtube.

With the 31st pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Boise State Broncos running back Doug Martin after a trade with the Denver Broncos to move up. Martin is 5-foot-9 and the third-rated running back in the draft, according to Mocking The Draft's rankings. Using his combination of quickness and power, Martin rushed 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns in his senior season at Boise State.
NFL Draft Tracker via Sports Illustrated
According to Mocking The Draft's scouting report on Martin, he is a skilled cutback runner that sets up his blocks well and a polished receiver out of the backfield.
In the trade, Tampa Bay sent the 36th and 101st picks to the Denver Broncos in exchange for the 31st and 126th selections.
The Buccaneers' next pick is the 68th pick in round three.

With the No. 7 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Mark Barron, a safety from the Alabama Crimson Tide. These NFL Draft 2012 results bear out the projection for Barron, who was seen as the top safety in this year's class of draftees.
Barron has great hands and is seen as a comprehensive all-around player. He's spent three years as a starter on the best defense in the nation. He nabbed 12 interceptions in his collegiate career, including seven in 2011 alone.
The Buccaneers' next pick is the 36th overall pick in the second round.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have traded their No. 5 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft to the Jacksonville Jaguars
In exchange for that pick, the Bucs will now select at No. 7 overall, the pick formerly held by the Jaguars while also receiving Jacksonville's fourth round pick at 101 overall.
All signs are pointing to the Jaguars picking Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon with their higher pick. It is still unsure who the Buccaneers will select, although it is believed that they will still select LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne at No. 7 overall.
