Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign TE Dallas Clark

As expected, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free agent tight end Dallas Clark, according to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com. The addition of Clark comes on the same day incumbent tight end Kellen Winslow revealed that the team will attempt to trade him.

Clark was released by the Colts in March, as that team's new leadership purged aging veterans. A few teams have shown some interest since then, including the Patriots. The Buccaneers worked him out recently.

Details of Clark's contract are still unknown. At 33, Clark may be limited in his contributions. He missed five games last season and a 10 the year before that with various ailments.

Winslow told SiriusXM on Monday morning that new head coach Greg Schiano told him that he was no longer in the plans for the team. Tampa's efforts to trade Winslow and his $3.3 million salary may fall short as interested teams opt to wait for the Bucs to release him.

The reaction over at Bucs Nation, SB Nation's Buccaneers blog, was one of disappointment.

Winslow looked slow and limited last season, but he still looked better than Clark did. Will Clark at least bring veteran leadership then? As overblown as that term is, I don't see how it would apply in this case: Clark's leadership didn't exactly help the Colts last season, as their only wins came with him out of the lineup. There's one positive, though: at least the last time Dallas came to Tampa the game sold out.
