Eric LeGrand Announces Retirement From NFL

On Thursday, the opening day of training camp for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one member of the team retired despite not playing a single game. Yet, it was still a moment of inspiration and happiness for all involved.

Eric LeGrand, a former Rutgers football player under Greg Schiano that was paralyzed from the neck down during a play in 2010, signed with the Buccaneers in May, fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming an NFL player. In a press release on Buccaneers.com, the team announced LeGrand's retirement from the NFL.

"Making it to the NFL was my dream. But now I want to see my team as strong as possible at the start of Training Camp," he said. "I'm a Buc for life."

Fans would be hard out to find a much more inspirational human, let alone Buccaneers player, than LeGrand, the winner of the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the 2012 ESPY Awards.
