The three-year veteran reportedly will sign a five-year extension with Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to announce a contract extension for defenseman Victor Hedman on Wednesday, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. The new deal spans five seasons and will pay Hedman roughly $4 million annually, reports McKenzie.

The Lightning made Hedman, now 20, the second overall pick in the 2009 Entry Draft. In 20 games this season, the Swede has two goals and a minus-five rating. Among Lightning players and excluding goalies, only Eric Brewer averages more time on ice than Hedman, who posts a 22:55 average to Brewer's 23:00.

In 79 games for Tampa Bay in 2010/11, he tallied three goals and 23 assists. In his rookie season the year prior, he posted four goals and 16 assists in 74 appearances.

The Lightning have yet to make an official announcement about Hedman's contract. Follow SB Nation Tampa Bay for updates on the story.
