Rays Vs. Blue Jays Recap: Tampa Takes Advantage Of Toronto Errors For Sweep

The Tampa Bay Rays seem to be righting the ship, pulling out of a mini-slump in which they lost six of seven games to now win three in a row against AL East foes. The Rays completed the brief two-game sweep in Canada on Tuesday night, defeating the Blue Jays 4-3. One night after the bullpen had to go eight innings after Jeff Niemann was injured in the first, David Price picked up Joe Maddon's squad and went seven strong, striking out six and walking no one. He had a blip in the third inning, allowing three quick runs -- most of the damage coming on an Edwin Encarnacion homer. But Price settled in after that, keeping his team in it until the offense broke through in the seventh inning.

Trailing 3-1, Sean Rodriguez got things started with a 400-foot-plus bomb to right to cut the lead in half. An error by Yunel Escobar put Will Rhymes on second and Jose Molina at first. Elliot Johnson singled to left and Rhymes would capitalize on a Rajai Davis error to even it up at 3-3. The errors were obviously costly, as B.J. Upton grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to add the go-ahead and winning run. Toronto starter Henderson Alvarez deserved a better fate in the inning, but the Rays did what they had to to get the win.

Tampa now moves on to Boston for a hyped up series against the last-place Red Sox. It's another quick two-game set before interleague play begins this weekend. Jeremy Hellickson will face Clay Buchholz in the first game on Wednesday.
