Stay connected for news and updates

Despite jumping out of the gate to a 4-0 lead, the Tampa Bay Rays were not able to hold off the Oakland A's, falling 9-5 in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

Matt Moore got tagged for eight runs in 4.2 innings, as the Athletics exploded for five runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth to take control of the game.

It was a good day for newly acquired Athletic Brandon Inge, who went 1-for-2 with 4 RBI's including a three-run homer.

Only one Rays player had a multi-hit game, as Matt Joyce went 3-for-4 with two RBI's to pace the offense. B.J. Upton made his only hit of the game count, hitting his second home run of the year in the fifth inning.

The Rays return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to New York to face the Yankees.
