Rays Vs. Phillies Final: Tampa Beats Philadelphia in Second Game Of Doubleheader, 7-3

The Tampa Bay Rays won their second game of the day against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday night by a final score of 7-3 at Citizen's Bank Park. Tampa won the first game of the day, 3-2.

Second baseman Brooks Conrad had a monster day at the plate. He went 2-3 in the game and drove in four RBI's. Short stop Sean Rodriguez and catcher Jose Lobaton each had an RBI as well.

The Rays used four pitchers in the ballgame and Brandon Gomes gets credit for the win as he pitched two and two-thirds innings giving up just one hit. Wade Davis had a rough outing on the mound as he gave up three hits and as many earned runs in his two and two-thirds innings pitched.

Tampa will move on to face the Kansas City Royals in a three-game set.

Rays Vs. Phillies: Sunday Game 2 Preview

The back end of the Rays-Phillies doubleheader is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET, with Alex Cobb (3-3, 3.82 ERA) taking on Cliff Lee (0-3, 3.48 ERA) in the pitchers' duel. Perhaps one of the most amazing stats in baseball this season is that Lee, considered one of the premier pitchers in baseball, does not have a win this far into the season.

The Cobb-Lee matchup comes right after David Price went head-to-head with Cole Hamels . For fans that appreciate pitching battles most, Sunday's Rays-Phillies is a fine game to pay attention to.

The Rays already got the best of the Phillies with Price on the mound earlier in the day with a 3-2 victory.

Rays Vs. Phillies Final Score: Tampa Wins 1st Game Of Doubleheader, 3-2

The Rays came away with a 3-2 victory against the Phillies on Sunday afternoon in the first game of the day's doubleheader between theses interleague opponents.

Tampa and Philly went scoreless through the first five innings of this game, but in the sixth, Jimmy Rollins hit a solo blast to left field to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead

Carlos Pena responded with a three-run shot to right, his ninth home run of the season. The Phillies rallied in the eighth inning with an RBI single by Ty Wigginton, but it wasn't enough to threaten Tampa's lead set by Pena's home run.

The second game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EST.

Rays Vs. Phillies Update: Scoreless Through 5 Innings

This one was supposed to be a low scoring pitching duel between Rays pitcher David Price and Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Philles. That game is still scoreless through five innings, but up to that point, it was Hamels who'd done far more work.

Price has managed to give up only three hits to the Phillies, while throwing 67 pitches through five innings. By contrast, Hamels had thrown 85 pitches while giving up just two runs to the Rays.

Don't rule out the possibility of this game going to extras tied at 0-0, while there's still a second game of the doubleheader to be played later Sunday evening, which features more above average pitching with Cliff Lee on the mound for the Phillies.

Rays Vs. Phillies Final: Tampa Loses A Heartbreaker, 7-6

There's no question that Saturday's game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies was an exciting affair and it's a shame that someone had to lose. That someone was unfortunately Tampa as they succumbed to the Phillies by a final score of 7-6.

Philadelphia went into the top of the ninth inning with a 6-4 lead before the Rays tied things up with two runs. That set the stage for some bottom of the ninth heroics as Jim Thome ended the game with a walk-off homerun for Philadelphia.

Jeff Keppinger led the Tampa offense with five hits and three RBI's on the day while James Shields struggled on the mound after getting the start for the Rays. He pitched five full innings and gave up seven hits and five earned runs although he did strike out seven Phillies batters.

Rays Vs. Phillies: After Rain Friday, Philadelphia Hosts Tampa Bay In Beginning Of Weekend Set

Tampa Bay's visit to Philadelphia for the first time since the 2008 World Series had a familiar, wet feeling to it, as Friday night's game between the Rays (38-31) and Phillies (33-38) was washed out after a 2-hour and 48-minute rain delay. The two team's will begin their weekend series now on Saturday and play a day-night doubleheader on Sunday.

James Shields (7-4, 3.72 ERA) will remain the starter for the first game of the series, despite warming up on Friday night. In his last two starts, both against the struggling Miami Marlins, Shields has allowed one earned run and 13 hits in 14 innings of work.

Cliff Lee, scheduled to pitch Friday night, will not throw on Sunday. In his place on Saturday will be Kyle Kendrick (2-7, 5.29 ERA). Kendrick is 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA in his last three outings, and is 0-2 with an 8.68 ERA in five career interleague home starts.
