Rays Vs. Angels Final Score: Tampa Extends Win Streak With 8-3 Win

The Tampa Bay Rays got to Zack Greinke early and pulled away for an 8-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The Rays scored their first run in an unconventional way as Greinke hit Elliot Johnson with the bases loaded to force in the first run. Greinke followed with a walk to leadoff man B.J. Upton and Tampa suddenly had a 2-0 lead. Matt Joyce followed with a solid single that scored two and extended the lead to 4-0.

Mike Trout put Anaheim on the board with a solo homer in the fourth but Ryan Roberts followed with a two-run homer of his own in the fifth to make the score 6-1. An Albert Pujols solo shot drew the Angels a little closer but Carlos Pena slammed the door on any comeback attempt with his two-run double in the eighth.

Matt Moore worked 6 1/3 innings while allowing five hits and two runs to pick up his 10th win of the season. Greinke falls to 1-2 with the Angels and sees his ERA balloon to 6.19. Joyce, Pena and Roberts all drove in two runs for the Rays, who remain in the lead in the American League wildcard race.

Rays Vs. Angels Game Preview: Matt Moore Goes For Sweep In Anaheim

After the Rays and Angels combined to score 18 Saturday night, runs could be harder to come by in Anaheim Sunday afternoon, with Matt Moore and Zack Greinke facing off in the series finale.

Moore (9-7, 3.60 ERA) came away with a no-decision in his most recent outing, striking out nine Mariners while allowing just one run on six hits. A pretty amazing stat from MLB.com: Moore has not allowed a home run his his last 53 2/3 innings (eight starts).

Greinke, meanwhile, needs to improve quickly if he is to justify the Angels' prospect outlay to acquire him. He's posted a 5.54 ERA since heading to Southern California. He's allowed four earned runs or more in each of his past three starts, including six in seven innings August 3 against the White Sox.

Small sample size alert: Rays third baseman Evan Longoria has just two hits in 16 career at-bats against Greinke, with one home run.

First pitch from Anaheim is scheduled for 3:35 pm ET. The game will be televised on Sun Sports in Florida.

Rays Vs. Angels: L.A. Lights Up Alex Cobb, Leads 8-0 After 3

After winning combined 19-3 score against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the first two games of a four-game series, the Tampa Bay Rays entered Saturday hoping to continue their momentum. Instead, their play has seen a reversal of fortune, as the Angels lead 8-0 after three innings.

Alex Cobb yielded all eight runs for the Rays in 2.2 innings, all earned, as the Angels rapped out 12 hits against him. Mike Trout is 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Torii Hunter, Albert Pujols, and Kendrys Morales are all 2-for-2, as Cobb failed to record an out against any of the Angels' first four hitters. Trout led off the game with a homer, and Pujols swatted a two-run shot in the second.

Meanwhile, the Rays offense has been quiet, with a B.J. Upton single and an Evan Longoria walk producing the only baserunners of the night. And Upton was promptly caught stealing after his appearance on the basepaths.

Tampa Bay Rays Top SS Prospect Hak-Ju Lee Placed On DL With Oblique Injury

The Tampa Bay Rays were dealt with a bit of negative news on Saturday as prized shortstop prospect Hak-Ju Lee went down with an injury. Lee will be placed on the disabled list after suffering an injury to his oblique on Friday.

Lee was one of the central figures in the trade between the Rays and the Chicago Cubs that sent longtime starter and fan favorite Matt Garza to the Windy City for a slew of prospects. Lee has played in 116 games for the Double-A Rays affiliate Montgomery Biscuits this season and is hitting .261 with 4 home runs and 37 RBI's and 37 stolen bases this season.

A seven run fourth inning from the Tampa Bay Rays put the game out of reach on Friday night for the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium of Anaheim as the Rays cruised to a 12-3 victory.

Rays Vs. Angels Final Score: David Price Shuts Out Los Angeles, 7-0, Wins 16th Game Of The Season

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price took the mound against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night and was in control from the get go. Lasting seven innings and striking out eight batters, Price earned his Major League leading 16th win of the season. The shutout victory extended a consecutive scoreless inning streak by the Rays at Angel Stadium of Anaheim to 33 innings.

The Rays offense, coming off being the victims of a perfect game against Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez, didn't give Angels starting pitcher Dan Haren a chance to do the same thing. Rays shortstop Ben Zobrist hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to give the Rays an early lead that they would not reliquish.

After another home run by centerfielder B.J. Upton in the top of the fourth inning, the Rays broke open the game in the same inning with a two-RBI single by third baseman Jeff Keppinger. Keppinger later scored in that inning on a sacrifice fly by outfielder Ryan Roberts. Designated hitter Evan Longoria hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to cap the scoring.

Rays Vs. Angels Game Preview: Tampa Bay Looks To Keep Wild Card Advantage With James Shields Starting

The Tampa Bay Rays are tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the wild card spots in the American League. They hold a two-and-a-half game advantage over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after Thursday's 7-0 victory. Entering Friday, the Rays have not allowed a run to the Angels in 33 consecutive innings at Angel Stadium.

If the Rays are going to hold on to their advantage over the Angels, pitcher James Shields (10-7, 4.02 ERA) will have to pick up where last night's starter, David Price, left off. In Shields' last start, Aug. 12 against the Minnesota Twins, Shields went seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits in a no-decision.

The Rays' offense, which rebounded pretty well after Felix Hernandez's perfect game on Wednesday, will have to deal with another staff ace in the Angels' Jered Weaver (15-2, 2.22). Weaver is trying to rebound from only his second loss of the season, which came Aug. 12 against the Seattle Mariners. In that game, Weaver allowed three runs on four hits, including two home runs, taking the loss in that game.

The game is scheduled for a 10:05 p.m. first pitch from Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Television coverage will be provided by Sunshine Sports with radio coverage from WFLA 970 AM.
