SB Nation is reporting that Willie Taggart will be named the next head coach at South Florida.
Western Kentucky head coach Willie Taggart has been named the new coach at the University of South Florida, according to Steven Godfrey of SB Nation.
The Bulls fired Skip Holtz last week after South Florida went 4-16 in his last 20 games including a 3-9 record this season. Holtz lasted just three seasons at South Florida.
Taggart interviewed with South Florida, Wisconsin and Arkansas in the last two weeks before landing with the Bulls on Friday.
Taggart was 16-20 at Western Kentucky since 2010. The Hilltoppers are bowl eligible for the second straight season under Taggart as they will play Central Michigan in the Little Caesars bowl on Dec. 26.
Before Western Kentucky, Taggart was the running backs coach at Stanford under Jim Harbaugh where he was credited with the development of Toby Gerhart.
By taking the South Florida job, Taggart is leaving his alma mater as he was the quarterback at Western Kentucky from 1995-1998.
