Heat-Magic Preseason: Improper Cleaning Blamed For Unsafe Court, Cancellation

TBO.com has quotes from St. Pete Times Forum officials regarding the conditions that caused the cancellation of tonight’s NBA preseason game between the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic:

“This court hasn’t been out here in a long time. We had a hockey game last night. We converted it overnight. We put the basketball floor down and it was very dirty. To properly clean it, the floor got pretty wet.” — Bill Wickett, Executive Vice President of Communications

“There was debate late in the day about the floor being unplayable. Some people felt it was, but ultimately you would never risk injury to one of these great players…What happened here is when the floor was brought back after being put out on loan, it was improperly treated. This is months and months ago…I’m going to know a lot more about this (Saturday). The exact cleaning solution, the brand name and all those things. It had oil content and it shouldn’t have been used.” — Tod Leiweke, Chief Executive Officer
