Outback Bowl: Joe Paterno's Failed Reception

In an effort to promote Penn State's appearance in the Outback Bowl here in Tampa, head coach Joe Paterno called in to local sports radio station WDAE, The Sports Animal, for an interview.  It didn't go so well.

On the other end of the line was the Animal's Big Dog, Steve Duemig, who spent considerable time -- on the air -- in an attempt to conduct the interview.  It was futile.  Paterno didn't hear a word Duemig said.

The audio was captured, Brooks added in the 'sweet sounds' of the State College marching band, and the video has become a small viral hit:

You would think that a live radio program might be interested in working out the kinks of an interview before it goes live on the air, but they didn't.  Of course, they have done thousands of live interviews over the phone -- what could possibly go wrong, right?

Then again, at 1,733 years old, it's no surprise that Paterno got all discombobulated by such technological wonders as a telephone.
