The Outback Bowl featuring the Penn State Nittany Lions and Florida Gators is just two weeks away. Here’s a look at the two teams’ postseason records.
The Gators have beaten the Nittany Lions two times on New Year’s Day in their only meetings, including a 21-6 win in the 1998 Citrus Bowl.
Gators head coach Urban Meyer was 2-0 in bowl games at Utah and is 4-1 at Florida. Those four were in BCS bowls.
Nittany Lions coach Joe Paterno will coach in his 25th New Year’s Day bowl game, most recently winning 19-17 over LSU in last year’s Capital One Bowl.
Both Meyer and Paterno have won two national championships.
Florida is 1-2 in the Outback Bowl, while Penn State is undefeated at 3-0. The Nittany Lions last played in Tampa against the Tennessee Volunteers in the 2007 New Year’s Day game and Florida last played Iowa in the Outback in 2006.
